September 3rd, 1890 — Transfiguration Class
It was the first day back to classes for both Tae-min and the students that had returned to school after a summer away. He had been light on the summer homework, only requesting that they read the chapter he would now be going over. That way all the theoretical stuff would not need be lingered on for too long.

"Welcome back, class. I trust that you enjoyed a good summer and did the assigned reading," Tae-min said once everyone had settled in and chatter had decreased. "Today, we will be doing the hardening charm which turns objects to stone," he said as he wrote out the incantation on the board.

"The incantation is duro and the wand movement is just like so," he said, making sure everyone could see him as he demonstrated the wand movement. "If there are no questions, you may begin practicing on any object you might have in your possession. No worries, I will turn it back to normal at the end of class."

Please be vague about your results and include the following form in your initial class posts, I will post whether you succeeded or failed.
Code:
<b>Transfiguration Skill</b>: (Poor, Average, Great, Excellent)
<b>General Magical Skill</b>: (Poor, Average, Great, The Best)

Joella listened as the professor spoke and took down notes. Her chicken scratch writing had improved somewhat over the summer which she was somewhat glad about. When they were bid to begin, she took out a sheaf of parchment, wondering what it would be like if it became stone. If she succeeded, then she supposed she would be finding out. Taking out her wand, she attempted the spell.

Wasn't this technically a charm? Elon was looking out a window, as his hands, seemingly disconnected from his head, doodled in his parchment. Where did charms end and where did transfiguration begin? Charms was the art of changing an object's property. Transfiguration did the same thing. So what made one thing a charm and the other transfiguration?

Elon's attention returned to the class when they could finally start casting the spell. He enjoyed theory, but only when he was on his own. He usually got bored of listening to lectures and his classmate's questions. He preferred to study the theory himself and then think upon it on his own.

He checked his textbook for a refresher on the wand movements because he wasn't paying much attention and then cast on his doodled parchment.

Transfiguration Skill: Great
General Magical Skill: Great
Attention Span: idk, he's usually lost in his own head but he also gets distracted from like lectures? So idk, average?

Summer had ended and now it was time for classes. Claire couldn't help but be lost in a day dream of what she might find in that one hidden corridor that she hadn't had a chance to explore last year after finding it a week before school ended. Then the professor said something about an incantation and she looked up in time for the wand movement.

Listening around the class room to catch that incantation, she started trying to pronounce it, but she was really going off of the mumbles of others as she stared at her charms book and tried to cast the spell.

No matter how poorly Sisse felt she had done in a subject the year before she was generally optimistic about how the upcoming year would go during the first days of class. Today was no different. She attempted the spell with renewed vigor on her ink well.

Transfiguration was one of her favorite subjects, so of course she was eager to attempt her spell—and even more eager to do it better than everyone else. With a bright smile on her face, Flora grabbed her boxed deck of tarot cards from her pouch and placed it on her desk. She carefully removed the cards and placed them aside before turning her wand on the box itself.

"Duro," she said clearly, and carefully, too—no need to mess up a spell because a poor pronunciation.

Although there were a handful of classes that Holly enjoyed more than Transfiguration, it was not one she regularly struggled to succeed in. Regularly. She pulled out her cauldron for next period's Potions class and placed it beside her. The best case scenario was attending next class with a functioning cauldron and a sense of satisfaction; at worst, she'd have an unusable cauldron but the knowledge that she could at least turn an object to stone.

A smirk on her face at the thought, she pointed her wand at the object and cast, "Duro."

Paxton had seen this spell done countless times when watching dueling tournaments and he was excited to be learning it now. He watched as the professor demonstrated the spell before making his own attempt.

Practical lessons were the only ones Cameron actively participated in, but he was sure the next one after this would be more theory and more book work. He was half-decent in Transfiguration, but was no expert; he cringed as he took his quill and placed it in front of him, wondering how each feather would turn to stone. Would he have more of an advantage by using, say, a piece of parchment? He abruptly decided that it didn't matter that much. He flimsily pointed his wand at the quill and muttered, "Duro."

With all the family events and Meta's own lack of desire to study, she hadn't had the chance to properly focus on the Transfiguration reading. She had skimmed through it, so she had some idea, just like with all of her classes. She was much better at practical matters than theory. Thankfully, Uncle Priam allowed them to practice their magic at home as long as they had supervision.

That day's spell seemed useful, especially for a duel. Meta could be like a Medusa and turn her enemies into stone.

She scrambled inside her leather bag, looking for something to turn into stone. She had textbooks, writing supplies, and some random objects that had found their way inside the bag. She fished out a chocolate frog card of some beta listing wizard. She practiced the wand movements without uttering the incantation as a warm-up and then when she felt confident, she cast "Duro!"

Archer was honestly surprised he'd survived long enough to make it to OWLs level classes. He had fully expected that he would have died of embarrassment before now. There was still time.

After he finished scribbling down notes, he rummaged about in his bag for a suitable object. What could he stand to lose if he royally screwed up? His fingers located a sock. With a few slow blinks and a shrug, he placed it on his workspace. If he hadn't realized it was even in his bag, Archer was sure he wouldn't miss it if it became ruined.

Practicing the wand movements, silently, he added in the incantation after four or five repetitions, "Duro."

Ned dutifully took notes on the lecture, being sure to draw a diagram for the wand movements so that him and Alice could reference it later. If it was their aim to make sure their friends succeeded in their studies this year, they would also need to be in tiptop shape.

The first item he came across was his quill, but he set it aside in case he needed to jot down any subsequent notes. A spare bit of parchment seemed like the best option. Glancing at the diagram he drew and visualizing what the professor had demonstrated, Ned practice a few times before making his attempt.

"Duro," he stated, firmly.

The routine of classes was much more interesting than the ‘lessons’ of her summer and so Sybille had thrown herself into them with a renewed vigor. From her seat next to Fleur she dutifully took notes as Professor Yi spoke. But like most students her favorite part of her practical lessons was actually using magic.

From her bag she drew out a spare black ribbon (she was once again in mourning and black seemed to have seeped into her wardrobe permanently much to her distaste) and took out her wand. “Duro.” Sybille attempted.

Sebastian was doing his best not to be a total swot, but Transfiguration was his class and, thank Merlin, he'd actually done the reading this summer. This was one of the few classes that wasn't scaring the hell out of when he thought of OWLs at the end of the year. It was difficult, and he wasn't a prodigy, but Bastian loved the feel of his magic when doing this work, he loved the texts and the challenges. Yeah, Transfigurations swot, it was official.

Grinning at the task assigned, Sebastian went digging into his bag and selected his Ghoul Studies textbook. He'd be perfectly fine if it didn't return to its natural form at the end of the class. Wand raised; voice excited, Bastian confidently spoke "Duro."
