    Arthur Pettigrew

    Full Name: Arthur Philbert Pettigrew

Nicknames: Art. He also likely has a variety of insulting nicknames from his family members and enemies; Arthur does not bother to keep track of them.

    Birthdate: March 12th 1859

    Current Age: Twenty-three

Occupation: First string chaser for the Kenmare Kestrals

    Hogwarts House: Gryffindor

Wand: Dogwood, 11", dragon heartstring, firm

Long due to Art's force of personality rather than any extraordinary height, Art's wand is loyal to him and most notable due to dogwood's refusal to perform silent magic.

    Blood Status: Pureblood

    Social Class: Middle

Family: Mother: Mrs. Andromache Pettigrew nee Lestrange - Art loves his mother and feels genuine guilt over her fall to the middle class.

Father: Mr. Leonardo Pettigrew - Arthur never had a relationship with his father, who died before he was two.

While Art has no siblings, he is related to the Lestranges and the Pettigrews, and therefor most of Pureblood Hogsmeade.

Appearance: Art is 5'9" tall, a little bit on the thin side, and vaguely muscular. He has dark hair and a little bit of facial hair; both of these are best described as 'scruffy.' Arthur has brown eyes and soft features. His eyebrows have been described as 'expressive.' He does not wear bright colors and has a bit of a thing for hats.

History: 1859: Arthur was considered a success, at his birth. He was the first child of Andromache and Leonardo Pettigrew, and he was, more importantly, a boy.
1860: Within a year of his birth his father died; Art never properly knew the man, but missed him as a child only because his mother did.
1862: Arthur's governesses described him as 'active.' He liked to be entertained in any way possible - often this manifested in Art getting himself in stupid and/or dangerous situations. This subsided somewhat when, at the age of three, he received his very first broomstick. Arthur didn't have a knack for flying, at least not at first - but he practiced enough to get decent at it.
1863: His first proper display of magic was not until he was four, when Art fell from his broomstick and bounces upon hitting the ground, completely free of harm. This was fascinating to him - how high can he fall from safely, with his magic about?
His governess became very good at basic healing magic over the next several years.
1870: Art received his Hogwarts letter. He and Andromache went to Diagon Alley to purchase the necessary supplies. As well as a wand, Arthur got a toad named Sir Barnabas Collins Toad. (Sir Toad, for short.)
Art was sorted into Gryffindor. If this was a surprise to anyone, it really should not have been.
He was not particularly good in his classes, but Art was sociable and managed to make a few friends.
1872: At the end of second year, Art signed up for Care of Magical Creatures, Divination, and Arithmancy as his electives.
1873: He joined the Gryffindor Quidditch team as Chaser in his fourth year. One of his teammates taught him how to play a simple game of cards that same year.
1874-1875: He studied for his OWLs, if only because it was the thing to do. However, as Art knew he would not pass his Arithmancy OWL, he did not bother to show up for it.
He received the following OWL grades:

    • Astronomy: P

      Arithmancy: T

      Care of Magical Creatures: E

      Charms: E

Defense Against the Dark Arts: E

      Divination: A

      Herbology: P

      History of Magic: D

      Potions: D

      Transfiguration: E

1875-1876: Art went on to take Care of Magical Creatures, Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, and Transfiguration as his NEWT classes. His interest in card games - particularly those that could be bet on - grew further.
In the summer between his sixth and seventh year of schooling, Art lost his virginity to a lower-class girl from the year above him. He began to occasionally sleep around - nothing serious, just things to do when he was bored.

1876-1877: Art decided in his seventh year that he wanted to play professional Quidditch. He was signed on as a second-string chaser by the Kenmare Kestrals in May of that year, much to his pleasure.

He took his NEWTs and left school for the last time.

Art's NEWT grades were as follows:

    • Care of Magical Creatures: E

      Charms: E

Defense Against the Dark Arts: A

      Transfiguration: A

1877-1878: Now that he is an adult, and out of school, Art has full access to his inheritance for the first time.
This is not a good thing.
He bought things he shouldn't because he can. He gambled - he played card games he didn't understand and bets too much money on. He bet on Quidditch games the Kestrals were not involved in. It became a problem by the time he goes on a proper gambling bender - by the end of the evening, Arthur squandered the vast majority of his inheritance away.
He did feel guilty about that - he still does.
The undignified fall to the lower middle-class became something Art didn't talk about. His mother had to become a governess to keep herself afloat, and he made an attempt to get the gambling under control. A poor attempt - Art is still ridiculous at best and completely irresponsible at worst, and it took him several months to get used to the lack of upper-class perks.
But he did get used to it, and Art managed to maintain a sense of optimism.
1879: After two seasons of playing on the Kenmare Kestrals, Art was promoted to first-string chaser. He was very pleased with this accomplishment, even though he was not exactly good for the team's image.
Art settled into being the perpetual disappointment to both sides of the family, after he had settled into the middle-class. He gambles and he whores and he drinks - gambles especially - but at least he has gotten slightly better at it.
1882: Arthur moves out of his shitty flat and into a slightly less shitty one, with Mr. Sam Echelon-Arnost.
1883: Arthur Pettigrew tries out for - and makes! - the British National Team as not only a first string chaser but also as their Captain. This is the first real jumpstart to his career in years and he is ecstatic - he scores a ridiculous amount of goals in their game and even though the British lose, it's still inspirational to him.
When the Hogsmeade Howlers are started Art - bitter over not being chosen as captain of the Kestrels - joins as their captain.
1884: After an almost-decent start to the year - apart from letting Tiberius Lestrange tamper with his head in an attempt to curb his gambling issues - Arthur gets stuck in Irvingly during the quarantine and catches the plague. The healer sister of a teammate and friend, Miss Desdemona Collins-Potter, checks up on him - and he does manage not to die!
Then Art makes the excessively shitty decision of playing Creothceann and is arrested for three months. Shaken and miserable after his release, it may be some time before he returns to himself.
Personality: Art has a need to be constantly occupied - he does not handle boredom well, which often results in his being harmed in easily-avoidable ways. This has also resulted in him becoming decent at performing healing magic on himself. He's reckless and bold and likes to test theories about whether or not things are worth it.
He has a massive gambling problem. When Arthur is playing cards, he stops when he is either out of money or someone drags him away - there is no in-between. Card games are also one of the few places where he can manage to be serious.
Though Arthur used to care little for other people's opinions, he has started to care about what his friends think about them - perhaps he's finally growing out of his adultolescense, perhaps not. He's an optimist and a social animal and of the opinion that he can replace people easily if they don't like him. Art enjoys parties.
He still possesses some of the attitudes of the upper-class, no matter how used to his new station he has become. Art is a little bit eccentric and, when he has the money, often purchases things for no reason other than their looking interesting.
Where his Quidditch aspirations are concerned, Art is both confident and ambitious. Otherwise, he can be quite self-deprecating.
