Fair haired, green eyed and in possession of a pale complexion, many might consider Nova a beauty. Her enviable bone structure and cupid's bow only add to this summation. She is a reasonably tall young girl being five foot five though by no means a giant, her figure is pleasing though not dramatic as she is a little more on the scrawny side as opposed to curvaceous though this does not detract too much when aided by a corset. She has a glowing smile when she uses it, though sadly unless influenced otherwise, her features tend to fall to a more melancholic expression. She is right handed for both wandwork and writing.
With three healthy sons to boast of, the announcement that Mrs. Alberta Crouch was with child for a third time was not met with eagerness and enthusiasm that the hopes and expectations of a first heir might be. However, by the time the fair haired little infant graced the world with her nearly tentative cries, her parents were quite pleased with their first and only daughter. While her mother was a far warmer figure in the raising of the children than her husband, she was not exactly the most warm and nurturing of mothers but she was fairly caring all the same. She didn't do so well to disguise the fact that she favored her handsome young sons over her slightly less valuable daughter, but she would sometimes sit the little girl on her lap and brush her long blonde hair. Her father's input into her upbringing was less noticeable and while he did little to nurture her, he did dote on her from a distance and find pride in his youngest. Not that he often showed it, of course.
As a small child, she was taken to long bouts of silence and she spoke not a single word until she reached the ripe old age of three and a half! It soon became apparent from then on that she was not deaf or dumb but simply chose not to speak and chatter as most young children might be inclined to. She had by then, taken to toddling after her twin brothers with great curiosity and silently trying to help them in their boyish exploits. She may not have been very vocal but she did on occasion show signs of ingenuity for her age. When she turned four, she finally showed her firsts signs of magic when separated from her favorite doll which she had dropped down a well. Crying and miserable, she managed to levitate the doll out of the well though it's porcelain features had cracked. Unfortunately she could not summon up the magical ability to repair this though luckily others could.
Throughout the rest of her childhood, she grew up with minimal tantrums and tears and nearly flawless obedience and while she was clearly a clever child, she very rarely was ever caught asking 'why' for she simply seemed content to accept what was. She wasn't a very social young girls and would often separate herself from groups of other girls she was supposed to play with, preferring the company of her books, novels and writing. From the view of an outsider, she might have been considered a very dull and morose child but she was simply a private and secretive girl, a characteristic that is no different in her later years. Contrary to first impressions of her, she is a very passionate and deeply emotional girl though she is very composed and careful about showing such vulnerabilities. She is near impossible to rile into anger but feels great depths of emotion nonetheless.
In her eleventh year, she received her Hogwarts letter as had been duly expected and while inside she was elated, the only sign of it was a smile on her face that would have been considered small by normal standards but was noticeably wide and joyous for her standards. When it came to being sorted, Nova very much expected she would be made a Slytherin; her mother had been a Slytherin, her father had been a Slytherin, both sets of grandparents too had been Slytherins and it was only her one brother who had been sorted differently but then he was him after all - the two shared many views though only she was aware of this - and so Gryffindor she had assumed would be her other choice. Quite by surprise, she was made a Ravenclaw and within five minutes of sitting at the Ravenclaw table, decided she was greatly pleased with the hat's decision.
Throughout her time at Hogwarts, she remained tightly stuck in her shell and excelled in her classes with no evident arrogance or expectation of it. She had one or two friends to boast of (not that she was one to boast) and was quite content for it to be so. They were of course pureblood and upper class though simply because she was reluctant to befriend any of the other lesser blooded and less wealthy classsmates on account of her parents' opinions. Her friends were not the most like-minded beings but they were friends all the same and while she came across various people who shared much more in common with her, she was held back from befriending them by their objectionable qualities.
In the summer before her third year at Hogwarts, the family commissioned a residence in Hogsmeade. October 12th of 1877, Mr. and Mrs. Crouch were taking a look around their under construction home to be when a support beam gave way and the roof collapsed, killing them both. Nova was deeply saddened by their passing. During her sixth year and first year of NEWTs, her eye was caught by a young man she hadn't paid a lot of attention to over their time at Hogwarts together. Newton Figg was in the same house and a muggleborn and they were seated quite near each other in their Arithmancy NEWT classes. Within the first few weeks of the school year, she had fallen quite helplessly in love with him and while he was upper class and not exactly objectionable in wealth, he was a muggleborn and so Nova knew from the start that any chance of their being together was impossible. Of course, the fact her infatuation was completely one-sided did not help at all. She continued mooning after him well into the year and all through her seventh year by the end of which, she had said all but two words to him the entire time.
Her graduation and Coming Out Ball passed quickly and she has since sunk into a most miserable state of melancholy ever since in her persistent pining for her sweetheart who never returned her affection.
Personality: Nova is a very proper and well-behaved young girl; she always conducts herself with the utmost elegance and composure and is never one to take to sudden outbursts or moments of outspokenness. She is gentle and usually very kind though when in a particularly melancholic mood, is easily abrupt and cold towards people as she prefers her own company in such times. She is less likely to act as such around acquaintances and strangers. As a hopeless romantic and something of a withdrawn creature, she takes to pining silently and will almost never act on her feelings without first having a vast deal of encouragement.
While having been raised in a pureblood supremacist household and outwardly seeming to uphold these values, internally, Nova is a far more open minded being. She cannot share the beliefs of her family when before her very eyes she has seen those born of muggles and half-bloods perform magic just as any other wizard or witch though of course she knows better than to ever speak of this.
