    Antoinette Ashmore vs. Cassius Lestrange
Ursula was beginning to feel that overseeing school children duel was tiresome though perhaps the second round would prove more interesting as - in theory at least - the feeble ones had been weeded out in the first round.

Repeating the rules with a certain desire to get it over with, she eyed the contestants impatiently before giving them the go ahead. "Miss Ashmore, if you would please do the honors of beginning this duel then Mr. Lestrange may follow with his spell."

Antoinette was not sure if she was glad that she was going to duel against a boy. He could do more combative spells while she could do the more ladylike ones. At least when she was duelling against Blanche Chaucer they both pretty much did the same thing, so it was not hard to see who had more skill.

She took a big breath when Mrs Black told her to begin. She was not sure if this duel was going to be fair. Antoinette was a half-blood when Cassius a pureblood. She knew that blood purity mattered to purebloods so she was not sure if that duel was going to be fair.

Antoinette did not need a lot of time to think of what to do. If everything worked right she would summon a small bird which would then turn into a bigger one, with lots of colourful feathers.

    • Antoinette Ashmore was a girl and a halfblood, so Cash was certain that losing would be more shameful this time. He waited for her to do her spell and spun his wand through his hand as he thought for a moment. It was good that Defense Against the Dark Arts was one of his better classes. Better that Tiberius had already been disqualified.

After some thought, he flicked his wand at the dummy and spoke his incantation clearly. If it all worked out, a massive set of antlers would grow out of the dummy's head. Cash thought that the hex would certainly be enough to distract an opponent, maybe even enough to make them fall over from the disproportionate weight.

Between the two spells cast, Ursula decided the girl had the advantage of the more impressive show. For all that Ursula was leaning towards bias in the Lestrange boy's favor, the antlers were just not doing it for her.

"Miss Ashmore wins, Mr. Lestrange if you would like to start the second round."

    • He had lost. Cassius just barely stifled the urge to roll his eyes. Birds, man. Both of the duels he had been in so far had involved ladies and birds.

He was going first this round, and decided to make a little nod to Audrey Borgin. "Avis Oppugno," he said, flicking wand at the dummy. Supposing it worked, a flock of birds would leave his wand and go to kick the hell out of the dummy. It was very exciting, Cash thought.

Antoinette was surprised that she had won. She expected Mr Lestange to win just because of his blood purity. Well, maybe Mrs Black was not such a bad woman, after all.

If everything worked right she would conjure a thin line of water which would start spinning and turn into a glass goblet.

Ursula thought Miss Ashmore's water goblet to be interesting but decided there was more skill to Mr. Lestrange's flock of birds. That and she might have felt somewhat more inclined towards the Lestrange boy being that he was what Ursula believed to be, the rightful winner by blood.

"Mr. Lestrange wins, Miss Ashmore may begin the tie-breaking round."

Antoinette was now starting to think that Mrs Black had let her win the first time just to make the audience believe she didn't care about the contestant's blood purity. That kind of irritated Antoinette, but she couldn't do anything about it. It was unfair how half-bloods and muggle-borns were treated as if they were rubbish. She knew that Cassius was not a blood purist and she didn't hold a grudge against him, but Mrs Black kind of irritated her.

She still wanted to give her best self, though. There was still a possibility for her to win, although it was little seeing who was her opponent. It seemed that Mrs Black didn't like inanimate objects, so Antoinette decided to conjure some kind of animal. If everything worked by plan, she would successfully summon a young horse. If not, her horse would most likely look like a deformed pony.

    • Cash decided that Charms were apparently the way to go, and while he wasn't the best in that class, combining it with Defense Against the Dark Arts seemed to be a good way to go. Besides - conjuring things was much easier than using charms on a person, in his mind, and Defense was his best class.

He flashed his wand and muttered an incantation, ideally conjuring a massive snake that would wind its way around the dummy.

Horse or snake. Horse or snake. Snake. Perhaps it was her inner Slytherin or the fact that she loathed horses when they weren't pulling a carriage but she was quite adamant that Lestrange should win.

"Mr. Lestrange wins the duel and may progress to the next round of the tournament."
