He read out the rules nice and clear for all to hear. "Mr. Crouch, please begin."

Ben was still a little shocked to have been paired up against none other than Una Walsh. For a half second he suspected one of his brothers of interfering with the bracket and rigging this match up as some sort of mild revenge ploy (possibly in retaliation for the Christmas gifts he'd gotten them), but that would have required them to actually know about Una, which he didn't think either of them did.

So he supposed it was just chance. Just like the mistletoe. His life was suddenly full of strange coincidences.

Even though women had been allowed to properly duel for years now, Ben hadn't really competed against them very often - he frequently missed the competitions while he was abroad, after all, and even when he was competing there were usually plenty of men to duel against. He was a little nervous about finding the right sort of spell to cast against Una, but he was determined to keep this entire affair very light-hearted despite the somewhat combative nature of the meeting.

"Go easy on me," he joked as they exchanged bows. Without waiting for her response, he cast Expulso on the ground around her feet. The spell only created a minor explosion, when done correctly. In theory, she'd be knocked off her balance enough for him to handily win the round, but without running the risk of actually hurting her.

Fate clearly was a cruel mistress and loved toying with Una. It seemed she was constantly being thrown against Mr. Crouch in strange ways, leaving her unsure of things more often than not. She couldn't help but to return something of a smirk to the man before her as he asked to go easy on her. As if that was even in her capabilities. Sweet and pleasant as some may expect her to be, she was still quite competitive and no matter what her relationship may be or have been with Reuben Crouch, she was not about to go easy on him.

She countered with her own spell to raise an invisible barrier around her to prevent being hit with any flying debris, hoping it would instead bounce off and hit her opponent instead.

Una is a Metamorphmagus and can therefore change her appearance.
She is also an American but has a kinda odd accent that is predominately American with a random mix of other places she's visited for extended times.

It had to be rather embarrassing, Charles thought, for Reuben Crouch to be shown up by some American wench. The woman's spell caused a nice ricochet which resulted in the after effects of his own spell to bounce right back at him. "The point goes to Miss Walsh who may begin the next round."

It was quite evident by the grin on Una's face the happiness and excitement she felt of having her spell work as she had hoped. Eyes dancing with amusement, she kept her attentions fully on Reuben. She cast her next spell, the swish of her wand hopefully resulting in his wand being transfigured into hundreds of little spiders to be sent scampering about.

Ben hadn't actually expected Una to go easy on him, but her next spell was just mean, in his opinion. He didn't know exactly what it was intended to do, but he recognized the form of it as something involving transfiguration. Reuben really didn't fancy being turned into anything, or having his clothes turned into anything, or whatever she had in mind. If she was going to beat him, couldn't she at least do it in a way that wasn't so embarrassing as turning him into a sheep, or something?

Luckily, he'd had much more recent practice with defensive spells than offense; his life had often depended on them, as a cursebreaker. He cast a very quick shield charm.

The upper hand that the woman had gained on her opponent seemed lost as Crouch just managed to shield himself from the incoming spell.

The deciding round made it sound so dramatic, which Ben didn't really feel it was. He knew as a spectator, he always preferred the duels where something blew up. Having effective spell charms was all nice and good for the casters (and he certainly appreciated his own holding strong in this last case), but it didn't make for spectacular sights. All the same.

With a brief quirk of a smile at Una, Ben cast Relashio on her wand; if successful, it would be repelled from her hand before she had a chance to counter.

Una frowned as her spell bounced off of Reuben's shield. Taking a staying breath, she awaited the final round. With her wand raised quickly, she cast a spell with the intention of sending a downpour of rain onto her opponent.

Miss Walsh was disarmed but not before she'd managed to cast her own spell. Arguably, Crouch had failed to prevent himself from being rained on but Charles also thought that being rained on was pretty tame and he was reluctant to award the duel for a little rain unless Crouch suddenly revealed a violent intolerance to water and promptly dissolved.

Crouch did not look particularly soluble at present. He also wasn't an American.

    "Mr. Crouch is the winner!"
