    Jacques Michaud vs. Magnus Lockhart

Charles gave the rules a thorough reading for the benefit of the competitors. He wasn't sure about Michaud but he wouldn't be surprised if Lockhart had taken too many bludgers to the skull to remember them on his own. "Mr. Michaud to start."

Jacques was not a duelling man. He'd mainly signed up as a means of having something new to do. He was getting so bored with the way his life was going. The first man that he was against was quite large. A quidditch player, he was pretty sure. His nephew had a collection of various quidditch things and he'd seen the mans face among them.

Jacques decided to start things off with a bat bogey hex.

Lock didn't usually sign up for dueling tournaments during Quidditch season. It was too much of a risk to make himself available for injury just for fun when he also did so regularly for his job. He had gotten out of the habit of checking things closely when he'd worked as a referee, however, and when he'd signed up for this one, he actually thought it was scheduled for after the end of the season. So. Whoops.

The first spell looked innocuous enough, but Lock had no intention of getting himself tripped up over anything. He cast a repelling charm - one that he'd become quite well versed in as a means of keeping falling Quidditch players from hitting the ground, when he was a referee. Theoretically it ought to also keep spells away from him.

On the one hand it was a very potent bat bogey hex. On the other... It was attacking its caster thanks to Lockhart's handiwork. "Mr. Lockhart wins the first round and may begin the second."

Lock felt a little guilty about having put the man's nose in such a state, but he supposed that was the nature of these things. Keeping in mind that he wouldn't want to cast anything he was not prepared to have turned against him, Lock decided to proceed with a spell which conjured an icy wind, and would freeze an unsuspecting victim if it were not blocked.

Then braced himself to block it, should the need arise.

Jacques wasn't pleased with what had happened and hoped that his former lover wasn't in the stands. Once the next round had begun, he cast a shield charm.

In what could probably be seen as a karmic twist of fate, Michaud's shield charm caused Lockhart's spell to rebound upon him. While the beater was evidently prepared for that eventuality, he failed to stop the spell completely. He might not have frozen solid but he certainly had a helping of frostbite in places. "The point goes to Mr. Michaud who will begin the last round."

[Scores: Jacques 9, Magnus 5] +6 rolled for injury
