    Flint Enters Race for Minister
    OCTOBER 4TH 1887

On the morning of October 3, Stephen Flint, Head of the Department for Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, announced his intentions to run for Minister for Magic. Born in January of 1851, Mr. Flint attended Hogwarts as a Slytherin. Upon graduation, Mr. Flint immediately went to work for the Ministry in the Department for Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, where he worked in the Office for House-Elf Relocation up until his promotion in 1876. He held his position of head of office until 1881, when he was appointed Assistant Head of his department. Mr. Flint held his position until 1884, when he briefly returned to the Office for House-Elf Relocation while managing family difficulties. He returned to the top of the latter in 1885, when he was appointed head of his department.

Mr. Flint is not the first in his family with political ambitions. Mr. Flint’s aunt, Mrs. Josephina Flint, held the position of Minister for Magic from 1819 to 1827, where she was vocal about her distrust for muggles. There has never been indication that Mr. Flint holds his aunt’s anti-muggle views, but it has always been apparent that he is right-leaning on the political spectrum. Sources close to Mr. Flint have said that while he always held respect for Minister Urquart, he frequently disagreed with his political agenda.

When we approached Mr. Flint for comment on why he chose to run for Minister for Magic, he answered as follows: “I care deeply about the magical community in Britain and believe that order above all is necessary for a successful, functioning government. While Minister Urquart made his greatest attempts to keep the magical community prosperous during his time as Minister, there were a number of miscalculations on his part, including his decision to hide his daughter’s werewolf status, which instilled a large amount of distrust for the government in the magical community. Britain needs a strong, trustworthy leader that’s capable of keeping order in the nation, especially during these trying times.”

Mr. Flint has not yet vocalized any plans for his campaign platform, nor has he announced any upcoming events for potential supports. Until then, The Daily Prophet as always remains your main source for election news!

    4TH OCTOBER, 1887

The second greatest city of the British Empire was shocked last night when muggles were attacked by a marauding pack of werewolves that were later able to evade capture.
At ten o'clock the streets were safe and sound but eye-witnesses who were leaving a nearby drinking establishment in the Calton area of Glasgow report that a mere ten minutes after the pubs had all closed and the streets had filled with working men returning home to their loved ones the scene had turned into a bloodbath. A pack of several wolves - reports are divided on the number, but anywhere between four and fifteen is possible - attacked mercilessly and innumerable muggles, unable to defend themselves, were quickly killed or grievously injured. Ten minutes after that the werewolves had passed on and Ministry officials finally arrived, far too late to help the dead and dying.
Mr James Dougal, 43, a muggle who narrowly avoided having his arm bitten and instead escaped with a ragged tear in his overcoat, was witness to the whole thing and spoke to Daily Prophet reporters before he was later obliviated and sent on his way. Unfortuantely he was in such a state of shock he was unable to form words and after the obliviation spoke only about the upcoming opening of Celtic FC.
The attack marks a worrying change in their behaviour. Thus far the menace had been contained to unfortunate villages such as our own Hogsmeade and woodland areas where the foul creatures are able to hide themselves away from the law, however last night's attack suggests the werewolves are becoming bold.
To attack a metropolitan area of muggles is akin to killing fish in a barrel but how long will it be before they rally towards a full-scale attack on decent Wizarding society? After the disaster at the Wizarding World Market, that claimed the life of several prominent wizards and witches, we have seen how much destruction mindless animals can cause. If the Ministry has any sense of responsibility it will mount an immediate investigation into the effectiveness of it's Werewolf Capture Unit and cut away the rot that is preventing them from doing their job.
And whoever the next Minister is one hopes he takes a lesson from the fate of Mr Urquart and guards his community as closely as he would his own children less we all find ourselves as werewolves by Christmas!
