Did you know?
The Language of the Flowers was a popular method to express feelings where words might be improper, but did you know other means of doing so? Some ladies used their parasols, as well as their fans, gloves, and hankies to flirt with a gentleman (or alternatively, tell them to shove it!). — Bree ( Submit your own)

This boy, then. He wasn't new. Wasn't one of the worst people in the common room, those rotten rich boys - like Mr. Jailkeeper - who could not fathom a world beyond their own farts. Was a good working class lad, so he'd heard. Had a bit of a weird looking face, and a bit of a weird thing for preaching. Still.Aubrey Davis in The Under-Sofa

Between You and Me
January 6th, 1889 - Castle Grounds
@Cameron Gillenwater

As much as she had enjoyed the quiet castle over break (and she had, surprisingly, really enjoyed it), Sloane was relieved that everybody was back. She could only entertain herself for so long after all. Writing to Calla had been fun, but there wasn't anything quite like having her friends around. Plus she was in a much better mood now that she'd had to recharge and set herself straight. Thankfully classes didn't start until tomorrow either, so she didn't have to worry about it overly much.

Fresh air was necessary, now that the common room was brimming with people again and Sloane rather thought she should get out for a little while. Just because she enjoyed having everyone back, didn't mean she wanted to deal with them all at once. Thankfully the crisp January air wasn't overly bitter today as she took the steps to the castle two at a time, which was impressive considering her short stature. She'd thought about taking off to the pitch, wondering if maybe that's where she might find Cam, but thought better of it- the air was a little too chilly for that today. She hated having her nose run in the cold weather.

Sliding into the snow, she started toward the lake thinking a walk would do her some good, get some energy out. About halfway there, she noticed a familiar figure in the distance, though second guessed herself at first. It was hard to tell if it was Cam- everybody looked the same in their cloaks outside, but the closer she got the more certain she was. A devious smile curled the corners of her lips as she scooped up some snow from the ground and formed a perfectly round little snowball; then without warning, she lobbed it in his direction, the only sound giving it away was the following bark of laughter.

Cameron had spent the entirety of his winter break cooped up inside his family home after being met with unexpected - but not entirely unwelcome, he'd later decided - news about upcoming changes to his family. He was glad to be back at Hogwarts, even if it meant he'd be greeted with new subject material to learn, new chapters to read, and new homework to complete.

The day before classes began had been spent roaming the grounds - something he didn't usually have time to do during the school year. It was a bit chilly, and without the comfort of a magically-enchanted cloak, he was forced to tuck his hands underneath his arms and hope that his nose didn't begin running. The wind had quickened and the temperature had dropped - nature's way of telling him, he thought, to go inside before his toes dropped off.

He was torn between being angry by the sudden blast of cold that hit him or amused by the laugh that followed, but ultimately turned to face Sloane with a scrunched nose. "How rude!" he teased, leaning down to ball up a handful of snow in his own hands. "Don't you know how cold it is? Tell me how you like it!" he said, smiling, before he chucked the snowball in her direction.

Grinning from ear to ear, Sloane squealed in delight as he faced her and automatically went for a snowball of his own. Ducking away, she caught his toss in the shoulder as she bent to scoop up another snowball herself. "Glad to have you back!" She called, reaching down again to grab more snow. "Isn't this how the welcome party goes?" She laughed again and lobbed another his way without waiting for him to get the chance.

Okay, she'd missed this, just a little. Having her friends around again was good for her, no chance to wallow anymore not that she'd mostly gotten over it. The ends of her hair turned a vivid pink as she scooted out of the way and ducked down to form another snowball to chuck in his direction.
