Did You Know?
Queen Victoria was known for putting jackets and dresses on her pups, causing clothing for dogs to become so popular that fashion houses for just dog clothes started popping up all over Paris. — Fox
It would be easy to assume that Evangeline came to the Lady Morgana only to pick fights. That wasn't true at all. They also had very good biscuits.

The AC is underway— deactivations and lists are underway, and everyone's posts now count for January! Remember that if you lost a character you did not wish to lose, you may post in maintenance to take their soul back from the reaper starting Wednesday, January 9th. If you currently have no active characters, you may post immediately to reactivate one!

Posting Wizard has rolled over! I don't know who's tabulating the December winner but someone will post that once they've done so ^^

UPCOMING FOR JANUARY:
Winter Labyrinth runs until the end of the month!
— Check out the January Writing Challenge!
— Brackets for this year's Quidditch cup will go up this month preparing us for the cup in February. Prepare yourselves.
— Keep an eye on the calendar to stay up to date on our IC events this month, and let us know if you have any to add!

Hi friends! Just a quick reminder to please format height in your mini-profile as # ft. # in.. Uniformity is lame except in profile formatting ;) Thanks!

Have an interest in learning more about the Victorian era?
Want to get more involved in the OOC community?
Want to help shape the IC world?
Have lots of creative ideas?
Enjoy writing?
Have a played reporter?

If you answered "YES!" to one or more of these questions, boy, do I have a sweet gig for you!

The Daily Prophet is Hiring!

That's right! The Hags are looking for 2-4 individuals to join our team. Interested parties should first meet the following requirements before applying:
  • Ensure you've posted at least once (as of the 15th) since the last AC—members who are struggling activity-wise aren't the best candidates for an added commitment!
  • Be willing and able to do a little bit of background research on an as-needed basis.
  • Be able to use simple HTML templates—put text and URLs in where needed; no actual coding required!
  • Be able to commit to a minimum of two articles per month.
  • Be confident soliciting content from members, be it hitting them up for quotes, posting a call for classifieds, etc.
  • Actually want to do this xD
If I haven't scared you off yet, please PM the DP account (Daily Prophet) to express your interest, confirm that you meet the above requirements offer a suggestion for a mini-event or a DP story "arc" (multiple-article plot, such as the amortentia letters) to show off your creative side and appreciation of our setting!

Submissions? Applications? will be accepted until Wednesday, January 23rd Friday February 1st.

As always, please remember that you don't HAVE to be a Hag to write for the Prophet! We always accept submissions PMed to the Daily Prophet account with at least 48 hours notice for publication :)

Hi, friends! You may have noticed some gap weeks between Witch Weekly issues in December, and that's because we've had a bit of changes to our team! I took over the Lead Wench position mid-December, and it took a few weeks to get adjusted, but thanks to Lynn's help (xoxo <3) and everyone's patience we're now we're getting back into the swing of things. We've also lost a few members of our team since then, which brings me to the whole point of this announcement:

Witch Weekly is hiring—again! For our newer members, Witch Weekly is an in-character magazine issued every Sunday of month by our team, affectionately dubbed the Weekly Wenches. We publish everything from horoscopes to baseless speculation to "heard around town", so there's definitely something for everything! We're currently looking for two full-time Wenches and one half-time Wench for our team so we can continue to besmirch your characters' names on a weekly basis ;)

What do you need to become a Wench?
  • Commitment. When one Wench doesn't post their assigned article for the week, we have to use an emergency article, or another member—either one who's supposed to be enjoying a week off, or someone who's already written their article for the week—has to step in to cover them!
  • Basic HTML editing. Like the Daily Prophet (which you should also apply for ), Witch Weekly has a number of templates for you to edit your articles into. The ability to crop and lightly edit images is helpful, but not all articles require that, and we have a number of graphics people who can lend you a hand if do you need help!
  • Be able to do light research! While many of our articles aren't based in hard fact, most times you'll have to browse through threads and member profiles—specifically the reputation section!—to find content. In some cases, it might require hitting up a member for more information on a thread, character, plot, etc. to make sure you get things right!

Convinced you can handle it? PM the following application to Edric Umbridge by January 25th, 2019!

Code:
[b]Name:[/b]
[b]Why do you want to be part of Witch Weekly?[/b]
[b]What article groups are you willing to write?[/b] (Cover, Group A, Group B, Main Article, Group C, Advertisements)
[b]Interested in full time or part time?[/b]
[b]If hired, which character account would you like to have Witch Weekly forum permissions on?[/b]
[b]Best method of contact?[/b] (We have a skype group chat, but I know there are sometimes better methods of reaching people on short notice!)

Curious about article types? We've listed them in a previous hiring event! Still unsure whether you'd be a good fit? We might have addressed your concerns before!

Remember last year when we did that whole moving thing? It’s ba-ack.

Unfortunately the company that provides our hosting will be closing its doors next month. We’ve got our new hosting plan all set up and ready to go, but will need a couple days’ downtime to actually complete the move. The current plan is to shut off posting at 8pm EST Monday to allow us to download the database and transfer the URL—that means that, for a time, the board will not be accessible at all. After that, we hope to be up and running no later than Thursday, but may be in reduced capacity (unpretty, broken links) or on hold entirely until the weekend.

What does this mean for you?

If you haven’t already, please bookmark our cbox so you can keep in touch while we move! We will be stickying updates in that window to keep you posted. This will be our fourth server move since 2010, but I think I blank out all of them because they’re obnoxious xD To our newer members, it might be beneficial to have an email address, Skype, or Discord contact for your buddy or another “old” Charmer—we don’t want to lose you in the shuffle!

You should also take some time to copy any coding you’re particularly into, as they tend to catch fire when we move xD

Last but not least, we’re hoping this is your last chance to snag the Migration stamp, so why not take a look at what it asks for and get to work? ;)

Welcome back!

Charming has survived the move with more ease than usual, though we’re still ironing out the hiccups. These hiccups are:

  • Fun bonus side-scroll at the bottom of the page.
  • New skins are not mobile optimized—those who use mobile are encouraged to keep a fall skin running until further notice.
  • Archive still down until the weekend, probably.
  • Some back end stuff—please forgive us if Olive blows something up.
Wait, did I say new skins?

At last, our winter skins have arrived! We have five new skins for winter, with banners from Té (Winter Wonderland), Bree (Memories, Winds of Winter), Bee (Once Upon a December), and MJ (Tis the Season). As always, you can choose your skin in the UCP, or at the bottom of the page!

On top of this, a couple other quick notes:
Thanks for your patience during the chaos! <3

Good news, gang—Charming's archives are back up and running! Threads et al. from our inception up to our "clean slate" move are preserved in all their glory; use them as the need arises! You can access this at http://old.charmingrp.com/ and it's also available via our Links popout (Quick Hits section) and as a subforum in "archives" at the bottom of the board. Snaps to Olive who got it functional again!

There’s a new stamp on the table for collection, and this one’s a doozy! Inspired by the Thirty Song Challenge, Blame the DJ challenges you to make decisions for one particular character based on a set playlist of ten songs.

To get started, post your list of ten songs in Stamp Station. Then, complete a thread for each of the tracks where they serve as a “soundtrack” of sorts. Once done, update your list and indicate it’s all done! Threads posted before the list don’t qualify ;)

Good luck!

Are you sick of me yet?

The AC is coming! The February AC will take place on this Saturday, February 2nd! To ensure you survive, please make sure that...
  • Your mini-profile is filled in with height properly formatted
  • All of your characters have been listed in the Character Directory—check back on your entries to make sure they were processed properly! Anyone reactivated this month will need to be placed back on. MentionMe is currently not installed as we wait on a couple technical things, but formatting still counts!
  • Characters made before the last AC have posted at least once this month
  • This one's mostly for staff, but that your full profile has been filled in ;)
If all of the above are squared away, there should be no reason for you to fall inactive in the upcoming check! To our new members: the AC requires no work on your part. The staff team simply makes sure the above is seen to!

Lastly, just a reminder to claim your Migration stamp, sign up for the Dueling Tournament, and apply to the Hags AND the Wenches (come on, be an over-achiever!) We're also taking events submissions for the February. Finally, you only have two days left to complete the January Challenge!
