The word echoed through the Great Hall to applause from a table—her table—as Madeline Bell bounded across to her new companions. No one who knew her would have doubted the placement: bold, adventurous, and with a strong sense of right and wrong, Maddy had always expected to end up in maroon and gold, though a small part of her had thought (hoped?) she might end up in Hufflepuff like her mother.

Regardless, it was with a broad grin on her face that the first year slid onto the Gryffindor bench, turning immediately to one of her new housemates, hand extended to shake, with a “Hi! I’m Maddy!”
Open to up to three Gryffindors in years 1-5! 2/2 rule. First years should remember how the alphabet works—Maddy is a B ;)

Any kind of nervousness Sloane had been feeling immediately melted away as the Hat announced Gryffindor! shortly after another first year and Sloane scampered down off the platform to her new table to squeeze in next to the other first year girl. It was an empty slot, not a comfort thing, honestly! She was greeted with a wide smile and a handshake, automatically setting Sloane at ease.

"Hi! I'm Sloane, it's nice to meet you!" Sloane was still coming down off the Sorting High and was practically bouncing in her seat. "This is all so exciting, isn't it?" Now all she had to do was see where Calla was sorted!

Angus stood excitedly with the others, rocking on his heels, eager to make his way to the chair and get sorted. It couldn’t come quickly enough as far as he was concerned. The A’s were sorted, taking their seats, then B’s, C’s, D’s, E’s…..getting close now! F’s….G’s!! As Grey, L was sorted. Angus didn’t even wait for the vice principle to even finish saying his name before he was making his way to the stage. He sat on the crooked, three legged stool, the hat was placed over his head and almost before it touched his ears, the voice said ’this is an easy one….GRYFFINDOR and the Gryffindor table applauded their newest member.

Angus, hurried to join the other first years, He whooped and hollered as he made his way along the tables length, his excitement evident. His father was going to be very pleased that he had ended up in the same house as him. He plonked himself down beside two girls, although he sat a head and shoulders above them his father’s genetics giving the Hispanic-Scotsman a height advantage. He had just caught one of the girls names as he sat down. ’Hello Fellow Gryffindors!’ he beamed with a dorky smile. ’Angus Greyback at your service’ he gave a broad smile, at his own imitation of a much older gentlemans behaviour, his mum would be pleased he made the effort, ’Nice to meet you Sloan and …..?’ he strained as though he should have heard the name.

"GRYFFINDOR!" The words were shouted a loud, the conversation no longer only in Sisse's mind. She grinned, realizing just how much she had wanted to be in Gryffindor when it actually happened. For the last three years she had longed to go to Hogwarts as her older brother, Matthew, had. Indeed she could admit that his sorting into Gryffindor had made her wish, especially in the last three months, that she would take after her brother and father and be sorted into that house. But in the past three months since her letter had arrived she had tried to keep from wishing too hard for such a thing, as her mother had reminded her, she should just be grateful to attend the school. After all, her mother had been a HUfflepuff and her beloved Miss Hughes had been a Ravenclaw. Surely she should be honored to be in both those houses such the sorting say so. But now, with the sorting completed, Sisse felt sure she was right in her desire to be a Gryffindor. She bounced off the stool, for a moment forgetting decorum in favor of her excitement, remembering in time to turn and gingerly place the old hat on the stool. All eyes were on her, until she descended the stairs and the next name was called.

She felt giddy as she tried to remember to take lady like steps until she reached the Gryffindor table, her eyes searching for  Matthew. Sisse noticed him about half way down the table, grinning at her, amid welcoming grins clustered around him from his fellow fourth years. Sisse nodded at him but turned her attention away from  the elder students toward her fellow first years at her end of the great table.

As a 'T' she had had to wait such a long while to be called and had heard several students before her declared Gryffindors. Now she could take her seat among them as they already chattered together, their excitement evident in their faces. Sisse smiled at the two girls and boy across from her as she took her seat on the opposite side of the table. She thought she recognized at least one of the young girls from the boat next to her's on their way over.  Ignoring the slight twinge of nerves at the prospect of meeting new persons, Sisse allowed the excitement to flow unguarded over her face as she introduced herself, "Hi! I'm Sisse." She extended her hand to the first girl in what she hoped appeared to be a lady like fashion, she thought she remembered her name to have been in the 'B's, maybe Bell?

In the time it took Maddy to meet her new housemate, the table seemed to swell with eager first years just like herself!

“Maddy Bell!” she replied to each of them in turn, doubting very much that she would get a handle on their names right away. Were all of the other houses so big? So full of first years? How could she possibly be expected to know everyone? The first year’s mind was abuzz with questions and glee, and she’d only just gotten here!

Though not judemental, she was curious in nature, and so Maddy quickly took a mental inventory of her new companions. Both of the girls stood shorter than her, but the boy—Angus Greyback—was much taller. Was he part giant? No—he wouldn’t have been allowed this year if he was. He would make an excellent quidditch player, though—

“Does anyone know when quidditch tryouts are?” she blurted eagerly.

If she were being honest, she was hardly taking in half of the information being thrown her way, but Sloane tried to mentally keep track of all the names and faces! The girls she would obviously get to know pretty quickly, they would be sharing a dorm!

That was all put aside however as Maddy mentioned quidditch. "No! Do you? Oh I hope they're soon, I would like to tryout so very much!" Her whole family was quidditch obsessed, it was hard not to get caught up in all of the wonder of the sport. "My Da played professionally, I hope I can be half as good as he is!" She wasn't bragging, but it was in her blood! Truthfully she was still small yet to really be of much use aside from seeker, but she'd take that! She'd never be big enough to be a beater, or so her mum said, but that may have just been her mum trying to dissuade her from trying out for that position!

There were plenty of new first years to meet, Sisse noted looking about her after Maddy introduced herself. Sisse found herself grinning with the excitement of the moment. So many people, so many names, and yet she didn’t mind. She had always been better at remembering names and faces than she had been with her normal lessons. Maddy Bell was taller, but not as tall as the first year boy who sat among them, the other girl with darker hair had a large smile and seemed shorter than Sisse. Indeed the two of them seemed rather alike, Sisse wondered if she’d be able to keep the two of them straight, she remembered that both of them had been sorted in the beginning.

At Maddy’s question, the blond shook her head. She loved watching quidditch, once when she had been seven she had even dreamed of being a famous quidditch player, however, she had come to realize that it was not her lot in life. Her mother and father would be beyond disappointed in her if she did indeed try out for the team. Beside Maddy the other brunette chimed in, her enthusiasm bubbling over enough to make Sisse wish her family won’t mind her taking a place on the team. “Who is your father?” She asked politely. She’d grown up with Matthew and Henry, after all, and as such had a half decent idea of who was who in the sporting world.
Really?” Maddy asked, eyes wide. “Mine too—Ambrose Bell,” the Gryffindor announced proudly to the table. Her papa had had an illustrious career as a player before being ancient had required him to retire to a less aggressive involvement in the sport he so loved.

"No sir! I've heard of him!" Sloane paid attention when her father rambled, not to mention the whole family was quidditch crazy! "Carson Bixby, he played for a while now he coaches! My brother Rufus plays now!" What a small world! So much quidditch excitement! And her mum had worried she'd have a hard time making friends because proper young ladies did not get themselves so entirely entangled with quidditch!

"That's so exciting!" Her fellow Gryffindors were certainly going to be easy to get along with! Thankfully, because they were going to be stuck together for quite some time after this!
The names sounded familiar but Sisse honestly didn’t know them beyond Matthew’s mentions of them in conversation with her father and Henry. She chose instead to smile and nod her head as if she did. Her father’s name certainly wouldn’t be recognized if she brought it up in conversation so the fact that she had even heard of them was an impressive fact. “What teams do they coach now?” She asked, trying to appear as if she weren’t entirely clueless. She supposed they’d find out soon enough if they were to live with her for their school years.
With that, Maddy decided that she and Slone Bixby would be very good friends indeed. How could they not be, with so much in common?

“Papa used to teach flying here at Hogwarts,” she replied brightly to Miss Thompsett, “but left so that he could spend more time with me—and now I’ve left him! He’s been coaching for the Tornadoes of late, though we’re Puddlemere supporters ourselves.”

Angus's eyes were wide with shock and awe as the two girls announced that their fathers had both played Quidditch professionally! While Angus's brothers, father, uncles, and even some of the Aunts all played rather boistrous games of Quidditch in seclusion of greyback reach the idea of playing professionaly was more than his 11 year old mind could handle! 'that is amazing!' he breathed! the overly tall teen decided that Gryffindor, aside from having a lion for it's mascot (the second best animal after the wolf) it also had people with connections to professional Quidditch and that was too fantastic for words. 'I hope you both go for the team! I bet we'd be unstoppable with some proper Quidditch players on the team!'. He of course intended to go out for the team himself, and while he fancied his chances he wasn't sure how he would stack up against professional players.

"Wigtown!* Though he'd like to transfer close to home. I'm a Harpies fan myself." A team of ladies playing quidditch and doing fairly well! Well, she didn't know about this season so far, she would have to catch up on rankings. "And of course we cheer for Rufus' team too!" It wouldn't do to leave her brother out!

Mr. Greyback seemed quite excited for tryouts as well, which made Sloane grin. "I'm sure it will be quite the season!" She just had to make the team!

*This is a team, but not one we have on the occs list, so I'm winging it haha
    [Image: mwv4J5.png]
Really?” Real curiosity crept into her tone. Sisse wondered what reason Miss Bell’s father had decided to no longer teach at the school was. Her father would insist that such a position was much more reliable than in a leisure career such as quidditch. Then again her father had an important, if boring in Sisse’s mind, position. As if realizing Sisse’s thoughts the other girl explained her father had wanted to spend more time with her. It had never occurred to Sisse that a father might do such a thing. Sure her father doted on her, but he took a stable career so he could provide for them. She was keenly aware that her time with her father was regulated to the stories he read her at night before the fire.

The boy seemed enthused at the idea of quidditch players being related to the two young ladies. Surprise was written over his features, it made Sisse feel as if she were missing something important in the conversation.

Girls playing quidditch? Sisse had always been taught that proper young ladies were never to play quidditch but she nodded along with the conversation nonetheless.
