Did you know?
The Language of the Flowers was a popular method to express feelings where words might be improper, but did you know other means of doing so? Some ladies used their parasols, as well as their fans, gloves, and hankies to flirt with a gentleman (or alternatively, tell them to shove it!). — Bree ( Submit your own)

This boy, then. He wasn't new. Wasn't one of the worst people in the common room, those rotten rich boys - like Mr. Jailkeeper - who could not fathom a world beyond their own farts. Was a good working class lad, so he'd heard. Had a bit of a weird looking face, and a bit of a weird thing for preaching. Still.Aubrey Davis in The Under-Sofa

Another Year, But So Different

January 1, 1889 - Gryffindor Common Room
The new year had come, and so had big changes leading up to said year. Claire was starting the year without Cele. How did that happen? Wasn't their bond enough for one of them to stay with the other? Or had they drifted farther apart last year than Claire had imagined? So when not exploring, Claire was moping. Sure, she had sent Cele her present on Christmas. Presents had been sent back from Cele and her parents. But what was the point if her twin was gone?

Not speaking with anyone was an idea that made Claire fear that she would go insane. So she tried to think of who would be good to talk to. Today that person was the girl whose hair changed color constantly. What a fun trait. Claire wouldn't mind such an ability. It would certainly make adventures more interesting. Going up to the girl, she smiled as brightly as she could. "Hello." That was a good start, right?

Staying for break had been... unexpectedly pleasant. There was hardly anyone here and though Sloane thrived in social situations, she was finding that the lack of people was utterly relaxing. She felt recharged and a little better about life after having time to just be by herself for a little while. That wasn't to say she would be upset when everybody came back, she missed her friends after all, but she was in a much better mood than before the break had begun.

She was so relaxed in fact that she was reading, of her own free will, in the common room, Barnabas snoozing on her chest as she laid on one of the plush couches with a book about quidditch hovering above her. Nobody would believe it when they told her, but that was neither here nor there. The book was actually pretty fascinating, who knew!

Turning the page, Sloane was just thinking about pausing to go get a snack when a voice interrupted her thoughts. Rolling her head to the side to look at the newcomer, Sloane realized it was one of those adventurous twins. Had she realized they'd stayed? She hadn't exactly been paying attention. "Hello there." She greeted with a smile anyway.

While her break so far hadn't been the best of the holidays, it did give Claire time to really think about herself. Not as just a twin or a Bénet. Just a girl who liked adventure and fun. For the most part, on her own. Socializing with others was interesting still. She didn't really feel too different. Was there a bit of an absence without her twin? Yes. But she was beginning to live with it, get used to it. Of course, it wouldn't be for much longer. Everyone would be returning on Friday.

Earning a smile in return for her own, she was glad that she seemed at least somewhat welcomed so far. Glancing at the book that was hovering over the other girl, she tilted her head slightly. "Ooo, that looks interesting." Both the book and the hovering. How had she not noticed that before?

With her concentration wandering, Sloane didn't trust herself to keep it hovering above her much longer, so she pulled it from midair and tucked a little bookmark into the pages. Having it crash down atop poor Barnabas would have been awful too! "It is, a little history on quidditch." She passed the other girl a little smile as she sat up, carefully cradling her rat in one hand and the book in the other.

"Enjoying your break?" She was. Sloane hadn't realized just how much she would enjoy the quiet, but she wasn't the least bit sorry for staying this year, not at all. It was a nice way to re-energize and get her feet back under her, unexpectedly refreshing.

It was a little disappointing to see the book discontinue to float. But she mentally shrugged it off. That must not be easy magic. "Quidditch sounds so interesting. I would have tried out, but I'm afraid of heights." She didn't mention that she also didn't understand the rules. That would seem silly, she imagined.

She bit her lip as she thought of her answer. "For the most part. I miss my twin though." She stated honestly. It was better to be honest anyway.
