Did you know?
The Language of the Flowers was a popular method to express feelings where words might be improper, but did you know other means of doing so? Some ladies used their parasols, as well as their fans, gloves, and hankies to flirt with a gentleman (or alternatively, tell them to shove it!). — Bree ( Submit your own)

This boy, then. He wasn't new. Wasn't one of the worst people in the common room, those rotten rich boys - like Mr. Jailkeeper - who could not fathom a world beyond their own farts. Was a good working class lad, so he'd heard. Had a bit of a weird looking face, and a bit of a weird thing for preaching. Still.Aubrey Davis in The Under-Sofa

No one's saying “stop that”

December 12, 1888 – Denbright’s Emporium of Wonderful Things
Emily was hoping to see some mean ladies again. That had entertained her, the last time she and Mama where there. Her littlest sibling, only a few weeks old, was currently taking up all of Mama's attention by being an annoying pest. Crying, and then going quiet, and then crying. She scoffed at the annoyance.

Mama was busy with the babe, and she didn't want to ask for help. The toy she had her eyes on was to far up for her to reach. The redhead did the only obvious thing (to her) and climbed for the toy.

Either Nanny was feeling uncharacteristically charitable and willing to bend to his whims, or she had someone she needed to shop for at Denbright's. It was likely the latter since she seemed rather interested in the items on the shelves. Leo took the opportunity to slip off and stride about touching just about everything he could lay his sticky, little fingers on. His Christmas wish list was growing the longer he browsed.

What he didn't expect, however, was to come across a girl about his age climbing once of the shelves in search of a toy. He seemed to approve of her methods. Anything that would annoy adults was great in his book. With his arms folded across his chest, and his head tilted back as far as it would go, he called out, "Hey, what you looking for?"

For once, he sounded merely curious instead of immediately combative.

Emily glanced down at the boy, who was looking up and talking to her. She gave a slightly innocent yet not really smile. The five year old grabbed the toy she was going for. Two, actually, and slipped one into her pockets. She climbed down, almost slipping twice as she struggled to place her feet in empty places. She didn't need to break the pretty toys.

It was in vain as a few fell to the ground and broke. She glared at them. How dare they fall when she'd been trying hard not to break anything.

She held out the toy that wasn't in her pocket once she got down with just a couple more things falling to their doom. "This." she replied cheerfully.

Leo watched with a crooked sort of grin as the girl snatched up the items she wanted. He noticed one of the toys was slipped into her pocket, but he didn't draw attention to it.

He seemed impressed that she had taken it upon herself to climb the shelf. So many other children worried about getting caught. He immediately found Emily interesting.

As the various objects crashed to the floor, Leo booted them out of the way as if they were merely useless garbage. After all, he didn't care if other people's property was ruined.

Glancing about for any grownups, he gave the girl a conspiratorial grin as he inspected what she has taken. "Are you going to steal it, then?"

It seemed Emily had made a friend. Once that didn't seem to care about anything that didn't directly relate to them. She liked that. Even more, she liked how he casually brushed the broken toys away. Wouldn't want to leave any evidence, would they?

"Of course," she replied as if it was a stupid question. Really, why would she go through all that trouble to get the toy if she wasn't going to take it? "Did you want one?" It absolutely was an after-thought to offer. She could probably smuggle both out. Probably.

Leo glanced about to make sure nobody was spying on them. For some reason, he felt more concern for Emily getting in trouble than himself.

After examining the toy, he shrugged and shook his head, not quite feeling as if he needed it. "Nah." If he could hazard a guess, he'd assume she just might like to keep both anyhow.

"I'm Leo," he blurted, a bit unlike him. There was something about the girl he liked, but he wasn't so sure he could exactly out his finger on it. Perhaps, it was her shared very blatant disregard for the rules.

"Who you?"

"Emily." The half-veela responded. She felt a little saddened that Leo didn't want one of the toys, but shrugged it off and glanced around before she slipped the second toy into the same pocket.

"Do you live in Hogsmeade? He questioned, hoping her answer was yes. It would be much easier for the two of them to play together if they lived nearby. He could just badger nanny to allow them to visit without having to worry about travel.

Emily nodded at his question. "I do!" she responded brightly. It would be nice to have someone near by that she could torment others play with. She was sure her parents would be proud of her for making one new friend.

Me too! Leo answered, delighted. He was rather picky when it came to friends; he found most other children to be silly crybabies who didn't like to partake in his kind of fun. Then again, he spent most of the time bullying them until they started weeping. The fact his first encounter was that Emily stole and didn't seem to care drew a respect from him that he didn't know. "Wanna play sometime? I can make Nanny say yes."

Emily was happy to have found a potential friend that was just as uncaring about the rules as she. "I would like that!" Mama and Papa wouldn't be able to say no. After all, she didn't make many friends – something about their parents not liking Mama for some reason.
