Standing at 5’5 Vera is slightly above the average for the age but her snow white complexion and tiny frame are certainly inkeeping with the style of the time and thus she is considered an attractive young lady. Primarily by herself and her mother but those are the main opinions she cares about. She has long auburn hair, marking her out from the rest of her blonde family but shares their bright blue eyes. She dresses in the height of fashion, an expense that is funded entirely by her generous allowance, and she has her eyes on several pieces of her mother’s jewellery.
Surprise!baby Vera is born the last Podmore. She is much more pleased about this than others in the family. By the time she is aware of her surroundings the only sibling that seems to be around much is Clint, who is awfully standoffish and won’t play with her, something it takes her years to understand the cause of.
Like pretty much everyone else in the family Vera displays magic for the first time as a result of sibling jealousy when Valerie debuts and is the temporary focus of all her parent’s attention. She burns Valerie’s gown for her coming out ball. Personally Vera thinks it couldn’t have suited her sister any less either way and tells Valerie so.
Vera attends Hogwarts for the first time and is ecstatic that she gets to do so without a single one of the siblings that all seem to hate her being present. She’s better off without them, she decides, glad Valerie is married off to a boring man so when, in seven years, she comes to begin her courting she can make a much
more impressive marriage.
Her schooling is an enjoyable time of Vera’s life though she could do without quite so much attention being paid to actual schoolwork because it is decidedly not her forte. She is pleased to be in the same house as her brothers were if only to give her a tangible connection to them – not that she really wants
one of course.
She has a lively group of friends that remain close knit throughout the entire seven years and while Vera is far from academically gifted she is clever in other ways and notices things. She is also, accidentally, the one that begins the rumours about where Virginia Carmichael went after fifth year and has spent some years since correcting people that repeat back to her the once uttered, eternally regretted story that there was an elopement that led to a child.
For the sake of having something to do – and to avoid both the Ministry, where Clinton will no doubt be a dreadful cloud over her day, and St. Mungo’s, where Sydney will be marginally better but distracted – Vera decides to work at Hogsmeade Hospital. The stumbling block is her aversion to particularly hard work and thus she becomes a Welcome Witch, which is entirely perfect as it allows her to people watch, be nosey and sit down for most of the day.
There are also plenty of handsome healers to keep her occupied.
Vera is not quite as successful during the season as she would have liked however, now that she is as old as Valerie was when she married she finds she is quite reluctant to do the same quite so soon. The gentlemen she speaks to are pleasant enough but certainly don’t entice her to enter into the state of matrimony as her sister has and ending up boring and stuck with frankly awful
Her mother’s health begins to fail. Allegedly. Vera, being the child who for better or worse, spends the most time with Virginia is not entirely convinced that it isn’t a cold her mother is drawing out for the sake of attention as she seems quite capable of doing as she pleases when a) none of the men of their family are present and b) there are interesting balls and parties to attend. Mostly it makes her admire her mother more and think Sydney is probably a bit rubbish at his job if he’s this unobservant.
Adelia Lovegood officially becomes a spinster and it finally begins to set in with Vera that she might want to get a move on or else she’ll end up like that too.
Though she had been spoilt all her life and has absolutely no sense of humbleness in her Vera is a very pleasant and charming young woman, with a kind word for most people whether what she’s saying is what she believes or not. She makes friends with enviable ease but is not so eager to please that she doesn’t recognise other people’s faults: she just tries to ignore them until she can move on to another, better person. She can be scathing in private, usually alongside her mother, and she has terribly mixed feelings about her brothers, keeping a face of bravado firmly in place as she pretends she doesn’t have fucks to give about them hating her when in fact she would prefer it if they liked her slightly more than they do.
