Glory Elizabeth Dawlish neé Alden
June 6, 1860
Acacia, 9", Rigid, Dragon Heartstring
Bennett Alden, father, b.1826 d.1884- Having always felt rather distant from her father, the loss of him didn’t seem to affect her as much as her other siblings though she was still notably distraught over his loss.
Georgiana Alden neé Irwin, mother, b.Late January-Early February 1838- Much closer to her mother than her father though her mother has never seen the need to overly dote or worry about Glory.
Bentley Alden, brother, b.1857- She’s not particularly close to her eldest brother but she does appreciate his concern and focus of his family.
Grace --- neé Alden, sister, b.1859- The two have always been the closest but Glory has felt a pang of jealousy over her sister being able to have children.
Bertram Alden, brother, b.1863- Another of the siblings she feels pangs of jealousy over due to his carefree manner and living.
Greer Alden, sister, b.1865- Glory is not the biggest fan of Greer and thinks her antics to be quite petty. She is quite vocal about her thoughts of Greer to any of the family that will listen.
Blaine Alden, brother, b.1867- Rather fond of the reclusive and quiet Alden brother, she seems to dote on him most of the youngest siblings.
Bryson Alden, brother, b.1870- She is rather indifferent of the youngest Alden child but does quite enjoy his antics when they combat with Greer’s.
Marcus Dawlish, husband, b.1848 d.1883- Having married him simply for connections, there was no love to be found between the two of them. (Herschel’s cousin’s son)
Glory is a rather attractive woman. Though past the youth of a debutante, she still has yet to fill out in the way of a mother since she has yet to bear a child. Her hair is dark and quite long but never seen at its full glory length as it is always done up in a pristine fashion. Her clothing remains always in the height of fashion and is always in perfect condition. Now that she’s out of mourning, she opts for more jewel toned dresses as far from black as possible. She is on the small and slender side, standing at five foot three and clearly favors her right hand in all things.
1860- Glory is born and is quite the quiet and observant baby from the get go.
1863- Bertram is born. At three years old, Glory is quite fascinated by the infant boy. Her first signs of magic come quite early when she levitates herself up high enough to be able to join her new baby brother in his crib.
1865- Greer is born and Glory dislikes her from the get go. Propriety is something the governess had already begun teaching the five year old and Greer clearly displays the exact opposite of what she’s being taught.
1867- Blaine is born. Glory appreciates his quiet demeanor after Greer proves to be just as loud even as she grows older.
1868- Bentley leaves for school. Glory is a bit jealous that he is able to leave behind the young children running about the house.
1870- The final Alden child is born. Another boy. Bryson seems to be much like Greer so Glory pays him little attention. Glory is a bit more distraught when Grace leaves for school, the two having built quite the bond over the years.
1871- Glory couldn’t be happier when she receives her letter to Hogwarts and goes to school that September. She is promptly sorted into Ravenclaw.
1874- Bertram joins his siblings at Hogwarts.
1875- Bentley graduates.
1876- Greer attends Hogwarts.
1877- Grace graduates and procures an engagement by the end of the year. Bennett decides to move his family to a newly purchased home in Wellingtonshire due to the unrest in London once the remaining students are back at school.
1878- Glory graduates, glad she only has to suffer two terms with her youngest sister. Blaine goes to Hogwarts and Grace marries. Though Glory is far from the least liked debutantes during the season of ‘78, she doesn’t procure and engagement. She finds herself rather jealous of Grace due to this since her sister had such great success upon her debute.
1880- Glory finally receives a proposal and though she doesn’t find herself very attracted or pleased with Mr. Dawlish, she is well aware the connections and influence a marriage to him could provide. Bennett agrees to Mr. Dawlish’s proposal after speaking with Glory about it. The two are married before the year is out. Glory’s wedding night is horrible. Mr. Dawlish comes to her drunk and does not bother to show her a gentle hand, simply taking his enjoyment and leaving her in pain and blood to cry herself to sleep.
1881- A couple short months after her marriage was made official, Glory finds herself with child. She miscarriages just a month later, mainly due to finding herself on the receiving end of Marcus’s fists. Though a drunk and perhaps not the brightest, he is at least smart enough to hit her where her her clothing will cover any bruises. After several more horrible nights in bed with him, Glory finds herself pregnant around Hallow’s Eve. Another miscarriage is had just before Christmas, leaving her to not go to her family’s home to enjoy the holiday with them and instead in her own rooms crying.
1882- Another year full of a drunkard husband using her as a punching bag and essentially causing three more miscarriages. No one is the wiser, however, though there’s a chance Grace has some concerns over her sister’s wellbeing. When Glory is feeling well, she visits Grace as often as possible to dote on her sister’s offspring.
1883- The year starts off with another miscarriage and Glory realizes she can no longer live her life the way it has been going. She begins inviting her in laws to their home more frequently for tea and dinners so they can witness the state their son is often times in. Her mother in law takes pity in her but clearly says and does nothing but that is not why they’ve been invited over. Overtime, it becomes apparent that Marcus imbibes far more than he should and his parents finally mention it to him. That night results in the worst night Glory had ever endured during their marriage as he takes his anger out on her both sexually and physically. With another miscarriage, Glory realizes there can be no more time to wait. Christmas Eve, Marcus comes to her rooms quite intoxicated once more. When he goes to leave, she follows him under the pretense of going to the kitchen to make herself a cup of tea. Marcus winds up taking a fall down the stairs and quite effectively breaks his neck. It is ruled an accidental death when numerous household staff come forward to say that he was quite drunk that night. His parents have no reason to suspect otherwise and leave matters as such. Glory is allotted a rather handsome allowance due to Marcus’s status as an only son and is allowed to remain in the home she shared with him. She is expected to endure a full two year mourning period and then would still be allowed to remain in the home until, if ever, she should remarry.
1884- Just a few short months after the loss of her husband, Glory loses her father as well. It disrupts the entire family and leaves obvious disaster in its wake. Blaine visits her when possible and keeps her apprised of the issues going on at home and she finds herself quite grateful she was able to remain in the Dawlish home.
1885- Glory does very little during her remaining year of mourning and often spends her time at home with frequent visits from Grace where the two knit rather wild and eccentric socks to give to their rather serious older brother, Bentley, only for him to turn around and put them up for sale in his newly purchased shop, Gladrags. She officially comes out of mourning the morning following Christmas looking no worse for the wear.
1886- Now having officially been out of mourning for some months, Glory is rather set on making some sort of a difference in her life. While she pines for a love like the ones read about in books, she also fears the very thought of giving a man the power to do to her what Marcus had done. She’s quite torn on the matter and her want of children only makes matters worse. Having always been rather intelligent, she begins to consider teaching in some form so as to avoid another marriage catastrophe.
Strong. Patient. Proper. Quiet. Intelligent. Proud.
