Finlay is lanky and has been this way since an early growth spurt, however he (thankfully) stopped growing at 5’9” (he was worried he would grow into some sort of giant freak). His ears are too big for his head, and his curly brown hair often stands up wildly on his head. He has a long face, with soft features. His eyebrows are just as wild as his hair over soft grey eyes. His nose is long and sloped nicely, ad his lips are full and slightly feminine. He has a slight gap between his teeth when he smiles.
He’s pretty pale, and can sometimes look like he hasn’t been sleeping (which could be the truth). He wears his clothes rumpled sometimes, but he tries to be very tidy now that he has his new job as Junior Assistant. He sometimes wears his brother’s hand-me-downs, or his counsins, but they’re always in remarkable shape. He’s careful to remain scrubbed and clean, always (sometimes to the point of obsession). Despite this, if he wears dark clothing, one can usually find a hair from his cat Peeli. He’s left handed.
| As the third child to Pádraig and Caitríona Connolly, Finlay’s destiny was already decided for him. He was tiny when born, and had to be under observation for a while before he was in the clear. Even then he had big ears (something that was a little fretted over).
| Cousin Connell is sorted into Gryffindor after arriving at Hogwarts.
| Cousin Connolly departs for Hogwarts. He is sorted into Gryffindor.
| Donovan and cousin Niamh depart for Hogwarts, and are sorted into Gryffindor.
| Sister Brighid and cousin Belfast Connolly are born. Finlay is pleased he’s no longer the youngest.
| Cousin Finnian goes to Hogwarts.
| Brother Domhnall is born. Connell is not permitted to become a curse breaker after completing his studies, and so instead finds an apprenticeship as a potioneer.
| Maeve enjoys tormenting Finlay with pranks that often scare the wits out of him. His first act of magic is to remove the door to his room in order to hide from his siblings. Only, he can’t get out and nobody thinks to look for him for a while. They find him only after he’s been stuck in there the whole day.
| Maeve is accompanied to Hogwarts by cousins Lorcan and Dublin. All three, predictably, are sorted into Gryffindor. Maeve and Dublin quickly gain reputations as troublemakers, while Lorcan earns a reputation as a flirt, going as far, at the tender age of eleven, as offering a female professor a kiss in exchange for a better grade. He earns four detentions for this transgression alone. Connolly enters the auror training program.
Finlay is relieved that Maeve and Dublin have left, if only to be free of their pranks and torment. However, a month in he finds he misses them terribly. He reads any school books ahead of time to prepare himself for Hogwarts – still a ways away.
During Christmas, he is again wishes his sister would leave him alone, but now he’s a little worried to go to Hogwarts because his sister and Dublin have told him lies about it.
| Now completely terrified of attending school, the day arrives for Finlay to head to Hogwarts. He’s already read a lot of the first year books assigned to them, and he’s become a bit of a know-it-all over summer. He asks his family why it isn’t possible for him to just learn at home
. Needless to say, he finds himself in The Great Hall waiting to be sorted. He’s sure he’ll be sorted into something other than Gryffindor, but, low and behold, the hat must have seen something else in him because he’s – thankfully – sorted into Gryffindor.
Niamh begins training as a healer, and Donovan goes abroad to…research…things. Maeve breaks her leg. Finlay takes it upon himself to bring her homework and read to her in the hospital while she mended (much to her chagrin).
| Finlay hates potions. He worries this is definitely going to be a problem if he needs to become a healer. However, he’s very good with charms and transfiguration, and has a head for remembering dates in History.
| Finlay is getting better in potions. He convinces himself he loves it, and he actually begins to enjoy it. He’s suddenly not very good in Defense Agaisnt the Dark Arts though. He dreads those classes.
| Finlay falls in love with a girl in his year. However, it’s incapable of actually speaking to her.
| Finlay is crushed when he overhears the love of his life mocking his ears.
| Finlay rocks his OWLS. Which is no surprise as he has no life outside of studying. Brighid and his cousin Belfast come to Hogwarts and are sorted into Gryffindor.
| Finlay applies to St. Mungos to be a summer intern, but becomes very ill and is laid out in bed all summer
. He’s a little depressed. He spends the summer reading and feeling miserable for himself. He gets a kitten he names Peeli (a pity gift from his family). He’s allergic to cats, it turns out, and they don’t realize this for a while so it seems he’s getting sicker. Once they do, they try to take the cat away from him but he’s already grown attached. He now takes medication so he’s not allergic.
| Finlay rocks his NEWTs. He begins training as a healer in St. Mungo’s, specifically in the department for Magical Bugs. He’s in love with Nathalie Jennings.
| Domhnall goes to Hogwarts, and isn’t placed in Gryffindor. Finlay feels terribly for him. He writes him letters constantly to keep up his morale. Just before Christmas, Niamh has her first (and to-date, only) child, a little metamorphmagus boy.
Finlay is now a full fledge healer and he loves his job, for the first time in his life he isn’t stressed out. He also loves coming in to see Nathalie every day.
| The Laughing Plague takes both Aunt Siobhán and Niamh’s husband. The loss of the former finally ‘frees’ Uncle Desmond, and he moves out of Connolly House with Lorcan in tow.
| Finlay has impressed some higher-ups at the hospital and he’s encouraged to apply for the Junior Assistant position at St. Mungo’s. Feeling like it would be illogical to turn down what many view as a promotion, he takes the job… and immediately regrets it. He’s, again, constantly on edge and high strung.
Without tradition to back her up, Brighid isn’t able to pursue a career as a hit witch. Deeming her “too much like Maeve” to debut into society, it is decided that she will attend the Pendergast School for some finishing come September. Often overshadowed by his cousin, Belfast decides to become a trainee hit wizard as his retribution.
- Slightly frazzled
- Charming in an innocent way, without meaning to be.
- Jumpy, at times. Prone to nervousness.
- incredibly loyal and kind. He's a Gryffindor underneath it all. He just needs to find his voice.
