Eliza is a comfortable height of five feet five inches. With warm, intelligent and kind eyes, she resembles her mother. With brown hair and an inquisitive, gaze she resembles her father. She is right handed, though when doing housework she can use both her hands competently. While described as extremely pretty, Eliza dresses in fairly plain clothes – seeing as she's lower class, she often just opts for a long dark skirt and white blouse. Her work clothes are fairly more professional than her day clothes.
06.1861 | Elizabeth Adelaide Hale is born to Adelaide and Jonathan Hale at precisely midnight.
12.1864 | Adelaide begins work as a maid.
09.1866 | While walking in a local park, Adelaide and Jonathan stop with Elizabeth by a street performer. Delighted by his music, Elizabeth dances along to the tune. She begins to exclaim all about the pretty, dancing colors.
07.1867 | Now age 8, Elizabeth has been complaining for quite some time about headaches, seeing shapes and colors. The Hales fear their daughter is going crazy, though can't afford to have a healer check her out.
08.1867 | Adelaide and Jonathan manage to get enough money to take their child to a healer. They figure out she has synesthesia, a neurological condition. Essentially, wires get crossed in someone's brain and they can end up tasting words, or seeing colors when they listen to music. It explains why Elizabeth had been talking about the 'pretty dancing colors' when they visited the park. The healer also says that this could be her first sign of magic, which is why it seems to be so potent and unusual in Eliza.
At first, being a synesthete was absolutely overwhelming for Elizabeth. She would get extreme migraines and have to be bedridden for days on end. Slowly but surely, and with the help of magic, a slight muffling charm was put on her ears, in order to block out some of the sounds she was hearing and tasting.
01.1870 | Eliza turns 11. Unfortunately her parents can't afford Hogwarts, but to make up for it the Hales are able to pool enough money together and buy Eliza her very first wand. She's coached slowly by her family, mostly household chores and minor defense spells. Any higher or advanced magic she's not able to do, and thus is a little insecure about her ability to do magic. Eliza has gotten used to being a synesthete and takes to singing while she works. The gift proves to be quite useful in letting her know which pitches she hits correctly. Sour notes would make flat, dull colors dance before her eyes, whereas clear, pitch-perfect notes would turn everything a sweet, pastel color. Because of this she, herself, had perfect pitch, and proved to be quite the talented singer.
11.1877 | After having gained the lady of the house's trust, Adelaide is promoted to a lady's maid when the current one is taken ill. Eliza and her family are moved to Hogsmeade along with the family. Since it's required of a lady's maid to be up when the mistress of the house gets up, Adelaide must learn to apparate in order to commute. Eliza begins work as a maid in the kitchens. She proves herself to be a fantastic cook, using her unique skill set to whip up the most unique recipes.
05.1880 | Eliza becomes a frequent visitor of Honeydukes Sweet Shop. After eyeing it continuously during her commute to work, she decides to brave what seems like complete bedlam for her senses. She's stunned to realize that the shop's vibrant colors don't completely assault her vision, and that the smells don't overwhelm her nose and make her nauseous. She's never been able to figure out why, but figured she wouldn't push it.
07.1884 - Present | Adelaide's mistress dies of the Laughing Plague. Fearing she might have it too, Adelaide blocks her family out. Sure enough, she shows symptoms, but ultimately survives. Adelaide is out of work, but thanks to a brilliant reference from her late mistress's husband, she's able to find other work as a lady's maid immediately. After frequenting Honeydukes and getting to know the owner, Eliza becomes the manager of the store.
