Did you know?

The Language of the Flowers was a popular method to express feelings where words might be improper, but did you know other means of doing so? Some ladies used their parasols, as well as their fans, gloves, and hankies to flirt with a gentleman (or alternatively, tell them to shove it!). — Bree

This boy, then. He wasn't new. Wasn't one of the worst people in the common room, those rotten rich boys - like Mr. Jailkeeper - who could not fathom a world beyond their own farts. Was a good working class lad, so he'd heard. Had a bit of a weird looking face, and a bit of a weird thing for preaching. Still.

Bitchin’ In The Kitchen
His rationale, surprisingly, was much sounder than hers was - not that she was prepared to admit it. Bella was neither an idealist or realist, but leaned towards the former, if only for survival. She'd long ago accepted that her life would be an unhappy one, but now, living one paycheck away from absolute ruin, Bella had no option but to hold onto hope. It got her by. Mr. MacFusty was a realist, and a pessimistic one at that - a skeptic.

"I was once told to not to follow my heart because of what my family might think," she said. It was merely a statement - no argument. "So forgive me if I don't fancy the idea of my options being limited because of what someone else's family might think. If something were to happen, Izzy would move on; she hasn't known me long enough for me to impact her life, whether in life or death."

Besides, there was nothing worse, in her opinion, than going and getting attached right now. Her place in the MacFusty home was temporary, and anyone she'd grown to love - Mac and Immie's children included - would be but a distant memory one day. She did not dare voice that fear, however; it was far too personal.

Jamie watched her closely, finding he was a bit intrigued by her initial statement. Clearly she'd been done wrong in the past and by those that should have been closest to her. It was a hard thing to understand. No matter the insanity within the happenings of the MacFusty family, they were still family. It didn't mattered truly how much one didn't like something another did, blood still meant a great deal to them. Of course, they were a bunch of big massive brothers and weren't afraid to duke it out if it needed to be done but they got beyond it. It didn't sound as if that were the case for the lass before him.

"You'd be surprised at how fast someone can become one of our own," he responded lightly with a shrug, "Whether by blood or not, it isn't hard to become a member of the family. Especially in regards to the young ones." He didn't doubt Issy had already formed an attachment to the woman but he wasn't about to try and guilt trip her further. If she truly wanted to go on a fool's errand, then so be it.

Pushing away from the counter, he snatched up the rum bottle and finished off the meager remnants of what was in it before smacking his lips and setting it back to the counter. "I don't go back for a few days," he said, casting a look to her with a raised brow, "You've got time to do as much research as you can in regards to the toddlings. If I deem ye ready, I'll take ye with me for a day. I'll see how that goes to determine whether you'll be going back or not."

Before she had time to swallow his next words - "it isn't hard to become a member of the family" - she was thrown off by his sudden capitulation. A wide grin broke across her face and she threw herself towards him, her arms wrapping around his torso before quickly pulling back, his bare skin a reminder of his injuries. She sheepishly pulled away, excitedly rocking back and forth on the balls of her feet, and nodded.

"Sorry," she quipped, a slight grimace the only sign of her remorse on her grinning face. "I'll definitely do all the reason that I can. You won't have one reason - apart from you existing prejudice - not to take me!" She'd definitely have to get him another bottle of rum as a gift of gratitude.

Jamie certainly hadn't expected that sort of a reaction from her. He wasn't even sure what it was that he'd said to bring about such a thing. But, she pulled away from him almost as quickly as she'd flung herself at him so he'd hardly had a chance to even react to it. As it was, he stood there a bit dumbfounded but simply waved off her apologies.

"Please do," he said simply, "I'd rather not have to explain to Mac why his assistant is dead or maimed." He nodded as if to emphasize it all before he turned away and headed out of the kitchen. He was ready for bed and could hardly believe that he'd just made such a ridiculous decision.
