Appearance: Justus overcame a very, very awkward puberty, and therefore is quite conscious of his appearance. He prefers to remain well groomed, and makes sure he has a healthy diet. He’s able to put on airs of total confidence, however. Though he can turn shy and awkward in an instant, especially in a situation he’s not entirely comfortable with. He was born left handed, but at a young age someone told him that was strange, so he trained himself to use his right hand. As he got older, he stopped caring, so it now more ambidextrous.
He wears simple fashions, but ones that work well with his striking features. He stands at a striking 6’ and has broad shoulders. He has dark hair and hazel eyes. He keeps himself well groomed. If ever he keeps his beard, it’s always well cared for and trimmed. He wears glasses to read. An easy smile is often on his face, but he’s shy about outright laughing and carousing in front of people unless he knows them well.
Justus’ mother Mary was the 4th wife of Amandus Westenburg. He was born after his twin brothers Ignatz and Henrik. Being the 4th wife meant that there were, of course, many siblings before Justus. Another baby in the household doesn’t kick up any sort of excitement or fanfare, and the twins are just annoyed they have another full sibling to compete with for their mother’s attention.
His mother dies when she contracts Dragon Pox mysteriously. He is only 2, but he can vaguely remember the funeral. His brothers became slightly protective of him at that point, but this doesn’t last. The twins begin to disappear into their own world.
The only ones who really dotes on him is Georg, his half-brother from Amandus’ 3rd wife.
When he turns 8, his father brings back a woman named Antonella from Spain. He’s unsure about her, but she seems nice enough. He has no idea she’s a gold-digger of course, but senses there is a lot of tension in the house between his older siblings and their father.
A new little brother is born! Klaus is pink and wiggly, and suddenly Justus wishes his father hadn’t brought a new woman back. His first act of magic is to levitate and tip a glass of water over the new baby. Nobody is very happy with him over this, except for some of his older siblings who see it as an act against Antonella.
His new sister is born. He’s grown up enough not to care about the new siblings now. And he’s off to Hogwarts! He’s sorted into Ravenclaw, though the sorting hat had a hard time picking between houses.
Justus’ favorite subject is charms. He’s very good at it. He spends most of his free time in the library. He’s quite pudgy and very self-conscious. He’s bullied by students. At home, he’s largely ignored.
Justus gets into a duel at school and hexed so his skin is blue for an entire week. This doesn’t add to his popularity. He take some pride knowing that the bully he fought with was stuck spitting up feathers and occasionally clucking like a chicken for the whole term.
His awkward stages of puberty are finally waning, in time to leave Hogwarts. He graduates with top NEWT results. Instead of going straight to work, Justus travels to Germany to work for one of his father’s companies for two years.
[1877-78] Justus returns to London, and takes a job at the ministry working as an intern for the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes. He feels he should remain at home with his family, if only to keep his dad from causing too much trouble or making terribly decisions. He isn't back home long before their family flees London for Hogsmeade. Justus has a big say in the house they move into in Wellingtonshire. He keeps his own large quarters there, and helps his father manage the books. His father asks him to continue working for the company, and he is seriously considering it until the ministry offers him a full time job in his department.
Antonella dies and he feels sorry for his younger siblings, having gone through much the same thing. He spends more time with them, getting to know them.
With most of his siblings having families of their own to care for, Justus is one of the first to know, and be concerned about his father’s proposal to Jane. She was young, and Justus felt a little sorry for her, as she seemed rather overwhelmed. He also noticed how pretty she was. He developed a soft spot for her, but didn’t show it around his siblings.
He’s quite infatuated with Jane, and one night, after a frustrating week at work, he makes his feelings known to her, though she seems to have noticed prior to this. A few weeks pass, then she takes him into her bed while their father is away on business.
Liesolette finds out when she walks in on them one day. She promises not to tell anyone, but Justus decides to move to London in order to curve his behavior.
Magdalena is born. Justus doesn’t even assume it’s his child – or perhaps he simply chooses not to think about it.
The disaster at the ministry kills both Emmerich and Georg. Justus was with Emmerich when he died but had his back turned when the potion killed his brother. He was trying to help someone else. He's devastated.
