Did you know?

Fern-hunting parties became popular, allowing young women to get outside in a seemingly innocuous pursuit with less rigid oversight and chaperoning than they saw in parlors and drawing rooms. They may have even had the occasional romantic meetup with a similarly fern-impassioned beau. — Bree

Separating was also not a great idea, though they weren't doing great at staying together anyway. If she were to volunteer to be the human sacrifice.. well... Hogsmeade had plenty of debutantes anyway...

Clint rolled his eyes at everyone's insistence on seeing this woman without even asking questions first. But if they wanted to be lambs lead to the slaughter, so be it. He did, however, move to to where he'd follow along in the back.

The girl does not answer Mr. Podmore's question. Instead, she leads them through a series of convoluted stone tunnels that culminate at a room. Inside the room there is only a black stone coffin, stuck in the center.

There are chains wound around it.

Clint's question went unanswered and then they were being lead through a maze of tunnels only to end up in a room with a coffin. "Bloody hell," He muttered under his breath but remained at the back of the group. Those that had been so quick to offer themselves up could deal with that mess.

Well, this had certainly not been what she was expecting. The words spoken earlier by one of their group members—"this is a dream", or something along those lines—found its way back to the forefront of her mind, but she couldn't shake the feeling that this was very, very real and very, very dangerous.

"Either it's a corpse, or a - a mummy," she concluded. That did not, however, explain the chains and why they were needed with something that was dead. The only logical conclusion that it was something undead.

"I don't suppose we're suppose to open it," she breathed, speaking to no one in particular.

Of course Miss Scrimegeour would be foolhardy enough to lead the group. He was beginning to see how she had found herself in that scandal this spring. Although he had already had some inkling of that.

His thoughts were distracted by the room they walked into. Whatever had Miss Whitledge gotten them into? He wondered as his face remained impassive even at Miss Scrimegeour's outrageous suggestions. Did she believe this was a dream now or did she really believe in the least likely possibilities? Personally Kenton thought it looked rather like a Celtic sacrifice or something. He knew who he would nominate in that case.

Maybe this was real, maybe it was not. But Odette knew one thing for sure. This wasn’t a dream, it was a nightmare. How did she manage to get herself into this? What had she been thinking?

Staring at the coffin, she had no idea what could possibly be done now. Looking around didn’t help. Nothing else was there, only her group and the coffin. And the girl, who held no answer for Mr. Podmore.

Perhaps she needed a different question. “Is she in there?” Odette asked the girl. How were they supposed to interact with this she if said person is dead?

Walking with the others, Andrew’s eyes widened at the sight of the chained coffin. His eyes drifted to the other people as they spoke and he sighed a little.

Dream or not, this was too real – and there was no logical explanation as to why they were sharing the same dream.

Approaching the coffin, Andrew grabbed a hold of one of the chains and shook it a little, “Whatever is in this coffin, I feel like it ought to stay there,” he said as he stepped away and turned to the rest of the group, “Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on? Mummy, corpse, or perhaps even the undead – this is making me uneasy.”

The setup rather made Garrett think of the sort of vampire novels that muggles seemed to like writing. He was content to hang back and let the others do the talking as he took note of the way the room looked.

Avril didn't want to know what was in the coffin. She agreed that whatever was in it should stay. She didn't feel the need to actually speak her agreement. She figured her silence would be good enough.

Bella's heart began to race as Mr. Lyness approached the coffin, but she quickly calmed when nothing came from shaking the chains. She moved swiftly towards the man and took a hold of the chains, any semblance of self-preservation going straight out the window. She gave it a light tug as if she was about to pull it loose.

"Well I say we do. We were sent to find the cause of the fog." "...and I could really use the money" were the words she didn't speak, but that made them no less true. Besides, where were they supposed to go; it felt oddly like they were playing a game, and they couldn't advance unless they did as told.

The chains unwind and the coffin shifts. Thick fog spills out of it and fills the room. "You all," comes a woman's voice, harsh and hostile. "You're always touching things that don't belong to you."

The fog vanishes. If they blink, the coffin will have changed - from a coffin to a black gemstone, deep in the earth. And then the room fills with mosquitoes, the same buzzing mass as the train station, but more of them, a countless black mass.

Bella would have let out a wail at the swarm, but was far too overwhelmed to let out silent scream as she tried to distance herself from the inescapable cloud of mosquitoes. This was bad—very, very bad.

Would she live to see the end of the day?
