Did you know?

The Language of the Flowers was a popular method to express feelings where words might be improper, but did you know other means of doing so? Some ladies used their parasols, as well as their fans, gloves, and hankies to flirt with a gentleman (or alternatively, tell them to shove it!). — Bree

WANTED:

Ester Montgomery for Thomas Montgomery. The one that got away (with the pornographer...)
This boy, then. He wasn't new. Wasn't one of the worst people in the common room, those rotten rich boys - like Mr. Jailkeeper - who could not fathom a world beyond their own farts. Was a good working class lad, so he'd heard. Had a bit of a weird looking face, and a bit of a weird thing for preaching. Still.

It wasn't until it was pointed out to her that she noticed exactly how itchy her skin had become - she thought it was just the tenseness in the air, but clearly it wasn't just a feeling. Reaching up to touch her face, she winced at the slight twinge of pain that it brought on. She tried to hide the flush in her cheeks, but her skin had already become rather pink from the itchiness.

She looked at Mr. Skeeter, wholeheartedly unsurprised that his first reflex was something to 'fix' something that was wrong with her. Thank goodness, Alfie was at least being tactful! She smiled gratefully at him, though was rather embarrassed her skin had become enflamed and none of the others seem to have developed these symptoms. Perhaps her skin was just that much more sensitive? She did notice they were itching as well, so perhaps it wasn't just Tilda who had been afflicted (or was becoming afflicted) by their predicament.

As the bottle was offered to her by the kind woman, Tilda took one glance at the messy scrawl and inwardly cringed. Outwardly, she smiled, truly thankful for the other woman's support. "No thank you, that's very kind of you though," she responded, her own hand moving towards her bag to fish around in her kit for a boil treatment. Thankfully that was part of her main healer's kit and she dabbed a bit of Boil Cure on the itchy boil. Mercifully, the blemish started to heal itself; albeit slowly than she would have preferred.

Her annoyance at being treated like a fragile waif clicked a switch in her and she followed Skeeter and the other one with ease. "Oh, no don't worry about me, lads!" she said airly, "It's not as if I've lost a limb, you know." Though the comment was meant as a jab at the shorter blonde one, she found herself unsheathing one of her double edged knives at the same time, checking its sharpness before she slid it into the band at her waist.

Tybalt winced at the boil on the healer's face, glancing down at where he'd absent-mindedly rolled up his sleeve to better get at his itchy skin, double checking mysterious boils hadn't appeared on his arm where he'd been scratching.

Perhaps Mr. Skeeter was afraid they were contagious, judging by the way he'd pegged it so impatiently? Privately, Tyb didn't think he'd be much of a loss to the group, and not everyone had moved on after him, except one of the other blokes had.

He snorted delightedly at the redhead's comment, feeling only marginally insensitive about poking fun at Skeeter and his cane. One boil probably wouldn't slow her down any, and even if was not the way everyone had been planning on going, Tybalt cast the rest of the group a helpless shrug. "I guess we're going that way, then?" He declared, turning out his hands in casual acquiescence. Best not to split up so soon, in his opinion (though if they did, he'd rather throw in his lot with the rest of them); and part of him was hoping that the itching sensation would subside if they found some fresher air.

It wouldn't take the rest of them especially long to catch up, anyway.

Miss MacFusty's boil cure is successful, but can do little to stop the sudden outcrop among the others - boils begin to appear, in numbers, on Miss Devon, Mr. Lecuyer, and Mr. Skeeter. The others' skin continues to itch, promising boils to come if nothing changes!

Tilda clearly had a skill with potions and he watched, still scratching, as the boil began to reduce. It was truly a marvel though he was quite sure Miss Devon's efforts would likely have yielded the same results but as he turned to the small blonde girl to say as much his smile fell. It was spreading. Oh Merlin no!

Scratching at his chest, unsure if the itch was real of just his imagination anymore he pushed his fingers through the gap in his shirt to reach the skin. He couldn't feel any boils but they came so quickly.

"I hope you've got enough of that stuff for us all to take a bath in it Miss Devon," he quipped, attempting to laugh despite the fact that every inch of his skin felt like insects were dancing across it. They even felt like they were in his ears! "Or if you have any more to spare Tilda?"

Nectar watched in horror as more people got boils on their skin. Scratching her arms, her neck, it was absolutely maddening. Looking around, she knew she should have brought potions. Perhaps she could find some plants that may help. "We may not need to cover ourselves in potion. There could be a magical plant that we could eat. Or, Miss Devon, do you have any potions that are drinkable that could help?" She asked, looking at the blonde.

Anne was mildly offended when Miss MacFusty decided not to use her personal Boil cure, but she expected as much from a Mediwitch. After all, Anne was no healer, and assumed that Miss MacFusty had much more experience than herself, even if she did quite enjoy Herbology.

"Surely Miss MacFusty's cure must be better than my own? Although I can see reason in wanted to ration her fix out for later times, should my own cure fail, or things get worse." Anne felt a bit nervous. And itchy. She looked at her own skin and had to stop herself from screaming. She was covered! She immediately dabbed some of her own cure all over herself as fast as she could. Oh, if only she'd listened to her mother and brought extra. Anne greatly wished that the woman was here, even if Mrs. Devon was more of a midwifery specialist than boils.

"Oh, I'm not sure I have enough..." Anne said, rifling through her bag. Maybe if it was diluted, they could all bathe but would that do anything? Maybe she was taking this too literally Potions weren't nearly as strong for her as Herbology. Wasn't that man some type of Healer anyways?

"I'd be much better at finding a plant. I haven't got any to drink except for this one." she held up a bottle that was somewhat small, more for the type of boil one would find on a young person than for this mess with the itchy skin. She herself wouldn't drink any, but she passed it to Miss Shinnick. She didn't even notice if anybody else had the boils, she was just so concerned with making sure she got rid of hers. Or at least, the ones she could get with the cure.

The boils were popping out faster than daisies in spring, and the inauspicious itching was making Tyb more physically restless than before, and he wasn't sure if walking it off was even possible, but at least being on the move might stop him thinking about it so much.

"Shall we pick up the pace a bit?" He suggested, glancing at Skeeter who was leading off into the village and then back over his shoulder. "There might be some useful plant towards the outskirts -" and frankly he wouldn't mind jumping straight into the lake out in Hawthorne Hollow, "but it doesn't matter which way we go, I expect one of the shops in town will have something. If not, at least the quicker we move that way, the closer we'll be to the Infirmary?" Tybalt joked-but-not-quite-joked, giving in to Skeeter's chosen route and hoping to spur those who'd already broken out into any sort of action that wasn't picking at their horrendous boils.

Alfie quickly acquiesced to the Quidditch players suggestion, keen to keep moving if only for something to occupy his mind with. Perhaps they would get lucky and stumble across a cure but either way the sooner they got moving the quicker all of this would be over and back at the hospital. Irritatingly it did suggest that Skeeter's idea was the best but he was not too proud to follow after him.

"Come on then, we better not lose him in the fog." Although truthfully he doubted Skeeter could move with much speed given his cane and general softness. He began to follow along the same path, cautious with his steps and gritting his teeth to stop himself scratching himself every time he felt the need. It reminded him of childhood illnesses, where his mother had bandaged up his hands to stop him scratching and creating scars he would carry all his life. Instead he gripped the lantern a little harder and lifted it high to light the path. "Skeeter, are you still there?" He called, unable to see the other man all of a sudden in the increasingly dense fog.

Behind him sounded as if the group had begun to follow, a good thing. Now they wouldnt need to worry about having been split up.

The further Asha walked the more he itched. He hoped he wouldnt get a boil too. But knowing his luck, he wouldnt have been surprised.

Barnabas was secretly relieved that some of the group had decided to follow along with him. It was begrudgingly, but at least they weren't too idiotic to at least come along with him. Unfortunately, they hadn't moved quickly enough. He glanced down at his itchy hands and was horrified to find boils all over. Had that woman touched him? No --- looking back he could faintly hear the group members exclaiming about getting boils as well. Great. Something fog induced? He winced as he scratched.

"Yes I'm here, keep up! It seems the itching is less out this way. Is that so Mr. Bilton?" He asked his companion for confirmation, "The boils must be caused by something we were nearby." He hoped he didn't look too horrid. Perhaps once the itching was entirely gone, the boils would vanish as well. Either that, or they'd have to suffer through them until they could discover a cure. (He was not aware that Miss MacFusty had cleared hers.)

Nectar was simply going through the motions. Keeping calm seemed to be a good idea for all of this. The last thing they needed was tension and panic, right? Studying the bottle, she didn't think it would be right if only a couple of people would drink it. Still, she tucked it away for safe keeping. Thanking Miss Devon, she kept her eyes out for good plants. Hopefully in a village with some muggles that knew of magic, there would be some magical plants growing. Or at least non-magical plants that could do the trick.

As the itching started to lessen, an idea sparked into her mind. "I know this is crazy, but we might have to find the place where the itching is the strongest. It might be a clue as to how we can fix this nightmare. Like some sort of ward to keep us away. If we play right into it, we may never find answers." She stated. Of course, this would likely go as an unpopular opinion, she still had to put it out there. Thinking a moment further, she added, "Those in favor to go with my theory can come with me, and the rest of our group can find another course of actions, if preferred. That way, we can also cover more options quicker."

As a young debutante, Barnabas had originally chalked her up as a hindrence to be kept safe at all costs. A distraction, at best. Unfortunately for her, his chivalrous ideals had been dashed with the discomfort and pain of the boils. He was impatient to be rid of them. When she suggested that she head back into the worst of the fog, he ought to have told her it was a terrible idea. Separating was also not a great idea, though they weren't doing great at staying together anyway. If she were to volunteer to be the human sacrifice.. well... Hogsmeade had plenty of debutantes anyway...

"That could work," He told the others, "I'll take the other half this way, to see if there may be something outside that is causing it. We do not know if this is local to this spot or if it could be being cast by someone else inside the village." Anything to get him out of the itching!

Was it possible, he wondered, that there might yet be somebody in the village that was able to cast magic still? If they found the source of the boils they might find the source of the fog, but what if they were wrong and this was a distraction? Alfie frowned between the young lady and Skeeter, unsure which to follow.

"I don't know whether splitting up is the best idea. They put us into teams for a reason," he scratched at his chest again, keen to have a decision made one way or the other. "I think heading into the village is the best bet."

The itching got worse and when Asha looked down at his hands boils covered them in painfully itching torture. Well that was just great. He’d just ignore it and hope things got better as they went. Further he followed Mr. Skeeter the less he itched, although he didn’t notice it untl the man called upon him. “Seems so.

Here they were arguing again about how to proceed. Asha almost sighed. He itched, which could be worse, but the angry boils were concerning, but for now they did have a job to do. “I agree.” He piped up with the gentleman suggesting staying together, it did seem the most sensible plan after all.

The itching was just starting to lessen - it wasn't as much of a relief as it might've been, since the boils themselves had already broken out, to much wincing on Tybalt's part - when some of the group decided to question the direction again.

Tyb made a face. The last thing he wanted to do was have to walk right back into the thick of the itching boil air again, but chivalry, apparently lurking somewhere in the back of his head, told him that they probably shouldn't let the debutante wander off alone. If she went back that way, who was to say she wouldn't pass out from more discomforting - or more painful - plague effects?

"I don't know," he said dubiously, scratching his head. "Did anyone see anything that way that looked at all out of the ordinary?" He asked, and then gave a lopsided grin. "Besides the boil breakouts." Dovecote had, thus far, looked entirely ordinary to him.
