Catch Me If You Can
#1
June ??, 1894 — Diagon Alley, London

A golden snitch is your first query. Not a real one, for you're not on broomstick, but one that could be just as tricky to find. It has been painted on the side of a building...but may move about from wall to wall anywhere on Diagon Alley. It will only remain still long enough to point you to the next stage of the hunt if you are able to smack it... hopefully before any other pairs with the same goal. It is a dreadfully busy day, though.

This couldn't be too bad, Phin thought. Diagon Alley was only so big, and only had so many buildings, right? Turning to Mr. Chang, he said, "Maybe we should split up? I'll take one side of the street and you can take the other, and we can check as we go?"

Tao was pleased that he didn't have to be on a real broom, not because he didn't enjoy it, but because he wasn't the best at flying. (How then he was going to make the team this year was beyond him, but that was a later problem.) He looked toward his companion and nodded. "Sounds good!"

With a wide smile he moved toward the other side of the street, thankful that he didn't have to push his way through too many people, before turning his attention forward, eyes darting around for the golden snitch. Tao sighed when he saw nothing. This was going to be harder than he thought.

Phin nodded decisively and headed to his side of the street, bounding around a group of shoppers so he could hug edge of the street as closely as possible. He didn't want to miss the snitch just because he was too far away to get a proper look.

He started down his side of the street, squinting at the next couple of walls he came across until it gave him a headache. Hopefully his partner was having an easier time of it.

People were just in the way! Ugh. Tao scrutinized each wall, searching for the elusive golden snitch, brown eyes starting from wall to wall in hopes of catching a glimpse of its shimmering wings. All they needed to do was touch it, right?

As he rounded a corner, he spotted it—a flash of gold against a backdrop of faded brick. The snitch was there, painted with meticulous detail. He couldn't help but grin as he ducked beneath a man carrying way too many boxes for this kind of crowded street. He bounced up to where the snitch was, and just as he was about raise his hand to slap it, the snitch faded from existence.

"I think it's on your side!" Tao grumbled as he glared at the blank wall.

Phin was already getting tired. This was a lot harder than he thought it was going to be. "Are you sure?" he called back, looking over his shoulder. But instead of his partner, the boy's hit upon the wall behind him. "There it is!" He dove for the brick wall, hand outstretched to hit the snitch before it disappeared again.

Although Tao had every intention of trying out to play Quidditch this year, he knew he wasn’t fast enough to be a Seeker - not that the position was even open. This little hunt just proved it.

“Yeah, I’m sure!” he shouted back, pushing himself to speed up. His eyes widened as he watched his partner’s hand stretch out toward the stupid, shiny golden ball that had been tormenting them for a while now.

Tao held his breath as he jogged over to where the other boy was at. “Is it over?” He asked, extending a hand to help him up.

#8
Phin carefully lifted his hand to reveal the snitch. He let out a relieved sigh. "I think so! And..." Phin squinted at the snitch before it blinked out of sight again. "...I think I know where we need to go next!"

#9
Tao let out a breath as he leaned forward, watching as the snitch finally blinked out of sight; thank goodness that was done! They'd only just gotten through this clue and he was tired already, but he was determined to win with his partner. (Plus having his supplies paid for for the upcoming school year would be nice.) Either way, Tao was definitely going to sleep well tonight.

Turning toward the other, he offered him a smile. "Alright! Lead the way." Hopefully they were doing better than everyone else was.
