Girls Shouldn’t Gossip
#1
March 25th, 1888 - Pendergast's School for Young Roses
Open to one or more other Rose Student(s)
Odette prided herself on being a proper woman, and was always motivated to show it. Being one of the Roses gave her great pride, and she looked forward to finding a husband of similar views as her. Making her family proud was top priority. And with such pride, it felt like her duty to make sure her sisters lived up to such standards as well.

That morning, she had been walking over to sit by her sister for breakfast, when she saw in her twin’s hands the latest article of Witch Weekly. As society made clear, it was never proper for a lady to gossip, and as such, such a gossip filled magazine was something that Odette was not willing to tolerate from her sister. Grabbing the magazine, she placed it on the table. “What a dreadful parchment. Mireille, you shouldn’t be reading such things.” She stated bluntly, shaking her head with disapproval.

Mireille hadn't actually intended to read the full magazine, but because it was there... she'd decided why not? It wasn't like it was a serious thing to read. Maybe she'd just wanted to not read the Daily Prophet. She liked knowing what was happening in the world, but she also liked escaping, hence her secret Animagi ability.

She wasn't exactly upset when her twin basically ripped the magazine out her hands. She was done reading it, anyway. 'Good morning, Odette.' she sighed. She was slightly angry about her twin reprimanding her over reading Witch Weekly when plenty of people read it. Plenty of respectable people. She was sure Naeva read it more religiously than she ever would.

'That is your opinion.' she replied tiredly. 'Wouldn't you like to know what people where saying about you?'

It had become instinct to correct her sister's 'wrong doings', such as this. Making their family proud was much higher on Odette's priority list than Mireille's entertainment. Glaring at the magazine as though it was filled with poison, she shook her head. What did go through the head of one that looked so similar to Odette? Even though they looked remarkably alike, they didn't act alike. That did worry Odette, the twin who acted so responsible. Not only could both of their actions hurt themselves and the family, but Mireille could personally hurt Odette's reputation. People could easily mistake the two of them, and what a nightmare that would be.

There was certainly no mistake in thinking that Mireille was upset. Shaking her head once more, she sat down beside her twin. "Good morning to you was well." She said. Well, at least Mireille could remember her manners. It was fairly clear to Odette that her twin would most likely stay in the Rose's longer than she would, and that did upset her. But it was only to the blame of Mireille. If the girl would stop acting so improper, perhaps she would one day make a fine wife.

As good of a point as it was, there were still flaws in her sister's argument. "Anything worth hearing would be placed in the Daily Prophet. The people of Witch Weekly are nothing more than troublesome gossips." She stated. Taking a moment, she thought of another good point. "You should also be more focused on learning, rather than worrying about anything else at the moment." She added.

Mirelle raised an eyebrow at her twin’s words, though until Odette had ended her rant with ‘you should focus more on learning’, she didn’t feel the urge to respond. Even then, it would probably take more effort than she was willing to give. How could two people — who happened to be twins — look so much a like and have such different personalities and views?

Mire wasn’t at this finishing school because she wanted to be, it was because their father had enrolled them before she’d had a chance to decide what she wanted to do. She swallowed her bitterness at the situation she was in — and it wasn’t by her choice.

Instead of responding with words, she picked up the magazine and began reading where she’d been forced to stop. She would read what she wanted, and as soon as she got out of this place... she’d do what she wanted. And if that meant cuttinf heraelf off from a family that didn’t seem to care... well... she’d cross that bridge when she came to it.

If only her twin could see that Odette was just looking out for her. It wasn’t Odette’s fault that Mireille decided to be a trouble child. But if became worse when Mireille got defensive and couldn’t see Odette’s logic. And Odette was very blunt about what she needed for her twin to do. How she need her twin to act.

Odette saw Finishing School as an honor. They were honoring their mother’s last wishes. They were honoring what she had wanted for them. And it seemed as if Mireille had completely forgotten that fact. Hadn’t they all agreed to add their mother’s name as a second middle name? What was that worth to Mireille? Nothing?

Anger threatened to show on her face as her twin quickly grabbed the offending magazine. Grabbing it roughly from her sister’s hands, she ripped it, repeatedly. “These pages are filled with poison, and the more you remember that, the better.” She stated. Odette cared. She cared too much. She wanted Mireille to understand this, but it didn’t seem to cross her twin’s mind.

Mireille fixed her twin a look, while at the same time trying to ignore the flare of anger she felt towards her look-a-like. She clenched her jaw and pointedly tried to not say anything. She kept reminding herself that she didn't want an argument and she didn't want to make a scene. She couldn't not respond to her twin's words though.

'If you wouldn't have said a thing,' she started coldly. 'You needn't've said another about me reading Witch Weekly.' Her voice was strained, barely above a whisper and she was obviously pissed off about her twin's words. She stood from where she was sitting and gave her sister another, darker, look before heading for the exit.

Oh how scary, Mireille’s angry look. How childish. Yet another shake of the head from Odette and she had completely dismissed Mireille with that. Father would be hearing about this nonsense, and he will not be pleased.

Ever the dramatic. At least Odette was subtle about her anger. At least she acted as a proper lady, even in anger. When would her twin ever learn? Why was Odette plagued with a look alike that refused to see reason?
