Making a run for it was good, Leah rationalized. It would mean getting out of the tent - and the rain - without having to talk to Prudence along the way. (It wasn't that she didn't want to talk to Prudence ever. She was just not in a position to do it without either embarrassing or making an ass of herself.)
"Yes, let's!" she said, perhaps a little too enthusiastically. She reached down and hastily retrieved her belongings, wadding up her swimsuit into s ball and grabbing her towel, before she stood back up. "I'll race you! Loser has to pay for snacks!" And then, without waiting for Pru to respond, she hurried out of the tent, her fear of thunder completely overwhelmed by her fear of awkwardness. Or worse.
