Charming NaNo 2k19 - Elsie Kirke - October 24, 2019
THAT'S RIGHT WITCHES!
It is time. (Does that sound familiar? Yes, I purloined my own announcement from last year.)
Not sure what NaNo is? NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. It is an online challenge for writers to write 50,000 words in order to get the first rough draft of their novel done - and the biggest challenge is getting it done all while in the month of November!
Seeing as how we aren't writing novels here, the rules are a little different:
The Name of the Game
- The goal is to write 10,000 words within the month of November. This will run November 1st to November 30th, 2019 NOT AC to AC.
- BUT WAIT BEE, THERE ARE LEVELS? Yes, yes there are. Introducing NaNo Levels, set your own goal, see how far you get! We'll be having levels/prizes (which are still being determined because I wanted to get sign ups going!) for 2.5k, 5k, 7.5k 10k (traditional Charming NaNo) and 12.5k+.
- You have to pick one character to complete the challenge with.
- Every IC post that you want to count toward your total word count needs to be posted IN THE SPREADSHEET BELOW; but each post still needs the total number of words noted at the bottom. All IC forums count, this means journals/letters etc, but not the AU forum!
How to Play
- YOU will be keeping track of your post total via this handy dandy spreadsheet! (Last year's spreadsheet for reference!)
- Create a new tab with your name and your character's name.
- Copy and paste the entire coding into your own tab.
- Post the link to the post in the first column.
- Put the actual post (without any html/bbcoding) in the "post" column, the last column will total it up and then the total from that column will go into the word total!

I was going to sign up with Ursula because I thought I'd never used her before and she's going to die so last chance saloon. Turns out I used her last year. Woops. She's still dying though so it seems like the only appropriate choice. Also I saw a chance to gamble against terrible odds for her life.
If I make it to 2.5k words with Ursula I will let her live to see 1890. Literally New Years and bye bye.
5k Instead of dying Ursula is cursed and stuck in some undesirable situation, like being a cabbage. It is possible that she may die even faster as a cabbage living in a time that predates refrigeration. Probably I won't make her a cabbage because that would make posting impossible.
7.5k I will suspend her death for a decent but undecided amount of time.
10k I've actually beat Nano so Ursula gets to beat death.
12.5k what the actual fuck. Ursula gets to live, pigs fly, I'll make an ad for her sister, and whomever the 12,500th word is for can tell me to do something wild like have Ursula get abducted by aliens and I can't say no*.
*Unless it's something that would negatively impact someone else's character(s) and they aren't on board with it.
EDIT: So I failed but I'm extending my deadline until Ursula's planned death date.

If Ernest hits:
2.5k: Go directly to crippled, do not pass go, do not collect $200. This would be like an open-thread-freak-accident sort of thing which is not the plot development I wanted :(
5k: Whomever I posted for most recently gets to choose method of crippling but it still happens (semi-)immediately.
7.5k: I get to cripple him in a way of my choosing but I'll tack on some ~other issues as determined by dice rolls.
10k: Crippled in manner and method of my choosing, huzzah! (aka the current plan, but I'll have to light a fire under my ass to keep it :P)
12.5k: Crippled in manner/method of my choosing and I get to move on to phase two earlier than anticipated. (What's phase two? If you wanna know maybe post with me and help me get to 12.5k ;) )
