Frida Lestrange vs. Elijah Urquart - Carmelina Cramming - February 9, 2019

9th February, 1889 — The Great Hall, Hogwarts
In theory, any fifth year might count a third year an easy defeat. But who knew? This third year boy might be unusually precocious. Once Carmelina had detailed the rules of the duel, she cast a smile at the young lady. "Miss Lestrange, when you're ready!"

Frida was by no means a stellar duelist, but quickly convinced herself she ought to be able to defeat a third year. Her knowledge of the younger Mr. Urquart was limited to familial recognition and his reputation for arrogance, neither of which was especially intimidating given the nature of the competition. Most arrogance, in her opinion, was misplaced; only those who felt a need to prove something to the world needed to flaunt their strengths.

With the added bonus of being the first to fire, Frida held up her wand and cast a simple disarming charm.

Though he was hardly likely to admit it aloud, Elijah did not fancy his chances against a fifth year—even if she was a Hufflepuff, and a girl. In spite of this, the Slytherin did his best to radiate confidence as he faced the prefect, his usual smirk adorning his features.

"Protego!" the Slytherin cast.

The first round went much as expected, although Miss Lestrange's disarming charm was remarkably well-cast. "Miss Lestrange takes the first round," Carmelina declared, as the Slytherin's wand was returned to him. "Mr. Urquart, when you're ready."

Scowling, Elijah cast a bat-bogey hex at the prefect.

Empowered by the success of her disarming charm, Frida attempted to stun the third year.

This time, Miss Lestrange's spell was shot off-course by the odd-looking bats flying out of the poor girl's nostrils. Carmelina admired the spell for a moment before vanishing the bat-bogeys and declaring the round to Mr. Urquart. "It seems a third round will be in order," she added, gesturing for Miss Lestrange to continue.

Nose still scrunched from the soreness, Frida raised her wand and attempted to change the color of his robes to an ugly, burnt orange. She'd rather not be met with violence again—and she could not imagine a violent response to a color-changing charm.

Now that's more like it, the third year thought before attempting to stun his opponent.

Whilst Miss Lestrange's spell was not quite as practical for an offensive spell as a stunner, her execution was markedly better than Mr. Urquart's attempt this round, which failed to have the desired effect. As such - "Miss Lestrange takes the duel!"
