Odette Lecuyer vs. Konstantin Fisk - Barnabas Skeeter - January 31, 2019

February 2nd, 1889 — Location

Why did they even have a clinic section? Surely, the average person's dueling abilities were not something to use as entertainment or even a demonstration of skill. Barnabas reviewed the rules with the pair. Miss Lecuyer couldn't possibly have any useful dueling abilities. He spoke to the woman in question, "Ms. Lecuyer, you may begin the first round at your leisure."

The doubt in the referees eyes sent her blood to a boil. But her face remained calm. She could handle this. A silly little match between her and some silly man. Odette would be in the Ministry one day, once she married. Her father would never allow it, but hopefully her future husband would. She would make her mark on the world. A knock-back jinx should be a good start. "Flipendo."

This was...not ideal. He had duelled women before, had long since gotten over the small discomfort it gave him at the thought of inadvertently injuring a young lady, but then he had seen Miss Connolly, amongst others, duel spectacularly and had ceased to worry quite so much. But this was a proper young lady.

He cast a shield, hopeful that with that at least she could do no harm.

Embarrassingly, the Assistant Head of the Magical Law Enforcement Department's shield charm was too weak to withstand that of a debutante. Useless. Utterly useless. Barnabas quirked a judgmental brow directly at the man as he announced, "The first point is awarded to Miss Lecuyer. Mr. Fisk, it is your turn to take the offensive."

Well, that was bloody embarrassing. He ignored Skeeter and showed no outward sign of discomposure as he sent a rapid immobulus.

Odette had a fire in her soul, and she was not going to let it get smothered by the small minds of men. How would he like to vomit slugs? "Slugulus Eructo!" She cast her spell as she moved in an attempt to avoid her opponent's own spell work.

At least this time, Mr. Fisk stepped it up. Perhaps the last round had been a fluke and the man had just been going easy on the woman - she was, after all, female. "The point is awarded to Mr. Fisk. Miss Lecuyer, it is your turn to take the offensive for the final round."

Had the official just relaxed? Part of her wanted to have a new one called. This one seemed to be rooting against her, and she did not care for that one bit. But she stayed as calm as she could. Deciding to do some magic that seemed to be a talent in her family, she decided to transfigure him. A rabbit seemed most fitting. Letting the image fill her mind, she cast the spell.

Kons reacted rapidly, coincidentally opting for transfiguration too as he attempted to turn the ground beneath her feet to quicksand and thus throw her spell off course.

While it was a valiant effort on the debutante's behalf - she was thrown off course by sinking knee-deep into quicksand. Barnabas wondered how fussed she'd be about ruining her dress (reason #891 why debutantes shouldn't duel) and announced, "The duel concludes with Mr. Fisk as the champion. Congratulations sir; better luck next time, Miss Lecuyer." Then, before he could see her cry over her ruined dress, he shuffled off the pitch.
