Family Is Never Easy -
Sweetie Whitledge - March 1, 2018
February 28th, 1888 - Corridors
Sweetie did not like dealing with other people very much today. However well her classes went, she had also had another encounter with her former friends. Even now, they were cruel monsters, and she could not stand them anymore. But they had once again won in effecting her. Having left the room on the verge of tears, she was trying to calm down. One never knew when a meddlesome Ravenclaw Prefect could come wandering down the hall. That was just what she needed, a lecture and crazed ramblings.
Having rushed to the nearest bathroom, she had cried for a few decent minutes, and was glad for it to have been right before dinner, and not before a class. Still, once heading towards the exit of the bathroom, she had made up her mind that she was going to skip dinner. The Common Room sounded like a much more inviting place, with absolutely no one to make fun of her puffy, obviously post-crying, eyes. Also, avoiding of a round two was another good idea that made the Common Room sound oh so inviting. Taking a deep breath, she was walking out of the bathroom, and turned a corner just in time to bump right into someone.
Now was certainly not the time for this. If only Crystal had been in that class with her, at least the fellow Slytherin would be by her side and able to speak for her. Taking a deep breath, she looked up just in time to catch her own brother's eyes. A full wave of new hurt, and tears, was threatening to come out. Oh, she could not deal with him, not him. Hadn't she already been through enough? Her mind could not really handle more crying, but that was exactly what her eyes wanted. Still, she was speechless, and obviously on the verge of crying once more, for two reasons now.
Handsome Whitledge
RE: Family Is Never Easy -
Handsome Whitledge - March 1, 2018
Handsome had not had a full, deep conversation with his sister since his mother's death, and he was by no means prepared to even as the beginning of March approached. He'd been so adamantly avoiding her that he'd refused to speak to her on Christmas and his birthday, despite them being the two Whitledges who had refused to return home for the holidays.
However, it was not possible to completely avoid his sister, especially in-between class times and when he was scheduled to be patrolling the corridors. His Potions class had ended, prompting his decision to return to the library fora book that one of his peers had recommended to assist him with the lesson. He'd just rounded the corner when he came face-to-face with
her.
"
Sweetie," he blurted in a rather accusatory tone, but it was out of surprise rather than anger. Upon closer inspection, he realized she'd been crying, but wasn't sure if he should care or not. She hadn't cared when his friendship with Maddie had fallen apart, right? She hadn't checked on him when their mother had died. Would she even care if
he cried?
But,
ugh, he was her brother. He had to be ~brotherly~ or he'd feel like an asshole.
"
What happened?" he asked, letting out a sigh of defeat.

Sweetie was quite content to fully avoid the frustration that blood had forced her to call him brother. Honestly, she did not want to deal with the boy who would not even try to see her side of things for the life of him. The boy who wished that she had never been born. The boy who everyone else treated as a golden child. He did not even deserve to be Head Boy.
Dealing with the mess, that she wished would just get cleaned up, was not something that she could deal with right now. She couldn't deal with him right now. It was not like she could deal with anyone else, but he was the hardest person for her to deal with at the moment. Part of her was utterly dreading any words from his mouth.
The way he said her name, it was so insulting to hear. "It's not my fault that I was named that awful name." She mumbled. But, rather than sound angry, or frustrated, she sounded sad. Such emotion was taking over her so much that everything she said would most likely sound sad and close to depressed.
From his tone alone, it was clear he did not care at all. And that set her off once more. Damn him. He had to make everything worse. Everything. "You don't care, you never do. You didn't care enough to see my side of things, you didn't care enough to tell me in person that we had just lost our own mother, you don't care about me and you never have. If you absolutely have to know, my frie- ex-friends have taken a thrill to teasing me, and know just how to hurt me. Just like you." She exclaimed accusingly, sobbing. Her body shook, and she hated herself now for all of this. This was not something that she was comfortable with, ever. She hated when people saw her like this. The only one she could even trust to see her like this was Ruskin... and Honey.

Handsome stood, wide-eyed and completely off guard by his sister's outburst. He didn't really know how to handle that. The only girl he only dealt with (or voluntarily dealt with) on a regular basis was Maddie, and she was
very level-headed and in control of her emotions.
"
Calm down," he hushed, almost desperately. He didn't want to draw any attention to the two of them, and it was very difficult when she was accusing him aloud of being not only an awful brother, but an awful human being. Not that many students would take
her side over
his.
"
I have no idea what's spurred this... this... this outburst towards me, but you need to learn to control your emotions publicly," he explained, unaware of how insensitive his words may actually sound to his distraught sister.

Of course he would stare at her like an animal with little to no intelligence. He was either stupid, or just wanting to act like an innocent, when she felt that he was anything but. As far as she was concerned, he was anything but innocent. The so-called 'Head Boy' was such a fraud that it was obvious.
Calm down? Of course he would treat her like a child, acting like she had no reason to cry. She had plenty of reason to cry. He was the reason she cried. Everything was his fault. Perhaps mother had even gone to that stupid Market to get away from him!
"Of course you know? Or are you just so oblivious to your own sister's emotions and what happens to her? What you do to me? Do you even care how much you've hurt me? I try to be helpful, and though not successful, that doesn't mean I should be treated like a beast from hell. Then you add to it, over and over, all the hurt, and make it worse. You didn't even care that my friend, the only one who hasn't started being cruel to me, had been forced out of school. You don't care at all that I felt alone for months, Handsome. While you had your friends, and our siblings, to talk to. I had no one." She snapped. Now the sadness had drifted much more to anger. However, she did lower her voice. She was a smart girl, despite what he thought. But she was going to say this. He deserved to hear this truth.

Despite hearing and comprehending every word she said, Handsome stared blankly. When did she ever not blame him for her life's problems? Darling, Pumpkin, Honey, Cupcake —
they could all handle their own issues without pinning the blame on others! She accused him of not caring, and that was true to some degree; it was really hard for him to care about her issues when, in her mind, he was the cause of all of them!
"
Honestly, Sweetie, I've lost all reason to even try to show that I care. No matter what I do, I'm the villain," he scoffed. "
From your perspective, I am the root cause of all your problems, so I've done my best to keep a distance; it seems, though, that doing even that makes me the villain. How do you suppose I win? Bow to your every outburst? Demean myself simply to let you feel like you're right?" he questioned calmly, too emotionally drained to even
think of yelling.
"
Life doesn't work like that. I am not responsible for your friend troubles, nor do I care if your 'feelings' are hurt when I speak my mind. No one in this family has no problem with me beside you, so I'm left believing the problem is you," he added bluntly.

To Sweetie, Handsome was the villain. He had shown for what felt like a long time that he wished that she had never been born, had never existed, and therefore treat her low enough to make her wish the same of her self. With every thought that passed, it felt as though he wanted her gone.
“All I’ve wanted is for you to admit that you are wrong. To at least try to see things from my perspective during summer. Or better yet, ask that girl of yours, even she can see from my point of you. She seemed far more understanding when we spoke together.” She said quickly, stated in fact.
His next words, those hurt. Now, she knew. He actually said it. She was right, he didn’t want her existence at all. It felt too blunt and to calm to have been said from blindness of any anger. And now, she was slightly shaking. From both anger, and hurt. “I knew it. You do wish that I never existed.” She replied, even her voice shaking.
Her next words were untrue, but it felt true at this moment. In this instance, she felt that this was her full feeling towards him. Of course, she wouldn’t feel this forever. Of course, she might even apologize, if she gained the courage. But not right now. Right now, anger had taken control. “I wish it was you who died instead of father.” She hissed. It was so low, that there might have been chance that even he hadn’t heard it, but she didn’t really care. Shaking even more, she quickly moved past him to leave, hopefully before anyone started to notice that she was actually shaking.

Handsome was not prepared to deal with this. Hogwarts was a safe place for him, a place where he could ignore his family woes until the next forced holiday (which, of course, would be the end of all holidays of dealing with his family). Handsome just wanted to enjoy his last few months, hence why his face was turning red with anger — no, frustration — when she began to speak ill of him.
"
She's not my girl, first of all." That too was a lie, but Handsome had no intention of letting her think otherwise. "
I've stated it over and over again: I will not apologize for keeping the household together, even at the expense of hurting your delicate feelings," he huffed. Sweetie wanted to screech and run off and accuse everyone of everything during the summer months, and expected to deal with no punishments in return. He really hadn't even punished her — only yelled to the point where she'd sworn against him forever.
"
And—" he started again, only to be interrupted by the vicious statement that left his little sisters mouth. She'd wished he'd died instead of father. For a boy who'd sworn he'd never get hurt by his annoying little sister's words, that actually stung. He shut his mouth instantly, staring at her with a cold, yet
obviously hurt gaze.
"
Just go, Sweetie," he finally said. And with a second thought, whispered: "
You're lucky I'm not taking points."
RE: Family Is Never Easy -

Even though she loved her sisters dearly, she knew even they would possibly never fully take her side. Never in her life would she be accepted by her family, in her eyes. In some way, each one of her siblings would hate her, her grandmother was a stranger, and they weren't that close to their cousins. At times, Sweetie felt that it would have just been easier if she had been born an only child... or born to a normal family. A family that didn't include her absent mother, her terrible brother, a living father, caring siblings, oh what a dream.
The lie was so obvious, that she only felt the need to raise an eyebrow and give him a look telling him that this was a pathetic attempt on his part at avoiding the truth. Keeping a household together? That was complete foolery, and even he knew that. And who was the one to be delicate? She hadn't come running up to him in the beginning, yelling about what was clearly a misunderstanding.
Looking back on him when he spoke, she saw the hurt. It must be a lie, surely. He wanted to guilt her into making some pathetic apology that would have been a complete lie and leave her feeling like his little puppet of a sister. No. She had no reason to be sorry. "You're hurt. Good. Now you know a small portion of what I have felt for months." She stated before heading off, back to the common room, not once stopping to hear another pathetic word out of the selfish boy's mouth.
