Tell Me All Is Well - Florence Jewell - July 24, 2018

June 16, 1888

My dearest Jamey,

I hope all is well with you and Henney. From your reports it seems that the shop is flourishing well in Hogsmeade. But how are you both fairing?

Father and I are quite well, we are glad to have Sherry back for the summer. She seems to keep Julep cheerful around the shop. Business here is going well. Your father may have a new idea for a flavor or firewhiskey but thus far he has kept it to himself.

We have been reading the articles regarding the Fog in Irvingly and I admit that I was rather worried when I saw that it had reached High Street in Hogsmeade. Are you both okay? Is business doing well despite that?

All my love,
Mother

Mother,
I'm glad to hear that all is well in London and that the girls aren't driving father and yourself crazy. I'm sure they're driving one another that way though. Hopefully, though, they've got plenty to occupy their time.

Father had sent a few bottles prior to the fog hitting of an experiment flavor. A mint infused firewhiskey. It's been a bit hit or miss though. I guess we'll have to test it further but I'm not sure if you'll be able to get us more what with the fog.

Henney and I are doing well enough. The shop isn't booming, for obvious reasons, but we'll make do. I imagine the more restless everyone gets, the more whiskey they'll want. I just hope we have enough to see to the need should it arise!

My dearest Jamey,

So far it seems they have both settled into the summer quite well. But you know your sisters. We shall see, although I am not worried about it.

Does there seem to be a specific reason it is liked or disliked? We can send more if you need, although I worry about owl travel in the fog. I did read it was not the most reliable. If you feel we should send more, simply let us know and we will brave it for you.

Cabin fever does tend to do that. We will cross our fingers that business picks up or the fog lifts sooner rather than later.

Do let me know if you need anything.

All my love,
Mother

Mother,
Some don't seem quite enthused by the minty bite accompanied with the fire of it. It's alright though. Might be like the first experimentation. Not everyone will love it but there will be some that do. I think we'll be alright though. So long as the fog doesn't last for months on end. That might be the only problem. We can make due with what we've got in the shop for the time being.

I think we need to invest in doing more sample packs though. Smaller bottles of each flavor that can be bought in a package so that others can actually try the flavored firewhiskies. It seems as though they aren't as keen as to buy the flavored bottles for fear they won't like it.

I think once the fog lifts, we should do monthly events here in Hogsmeade, too. Do some tastings for everyone. It'll surely bring in some more business. What are your thoughts, mother?

My dearest Jamey,

The sample bottles are certainly something to be thought of. We had not looked into that yet. But I shall speak to your father about it. I suspect they will be a success, however, to do this on a large scale may require pricing it out. If you believe it may increase sales on a large scale I can see this as being worth the risk to try it on a larger scale.

I do like the idea of events, however, what type are you thinking? Tastings or more of a social gathering? What would be your targeted attendance for such events or would you try to rotate it? We could always try it in London first, unless you think the community of Hogsmeade might be better suited to such an endeavor.

All my love,
Mother

Mother,
I definitely think that it could increase sales on a larger scale. It will give them enough of a taste to decide which flavors they have a preference for and then can just purchase larger bottles of it. They would probably do well for the holidays, as well. Perfect little gifts to give to special people in lives.

And I suppose we could do both types of events? See what stands out most to those. Tastings might be good on a smaller scale so we aren't giving away too much free whiskey. But I suppose we would have to test it out to see. Perhaps a grand opening once this fog is gone here at the new shop in Hogsmeade. We didn't get much of a chance to do anything with it thanks to all the fog.

My dearest Jamey,

You can not believe how relieved I was to see that the fog has vanished. You and Henney are long overdue for a visit, especially as Sherry heads back to school soon. Would you be able to make Sunday supper?

I have priced out your sample idea. It seems like it would be a financially viable option. As such your father and I have decided to give it a trial run to the end of the year. You can pick up the samples when you visit this weekend.

A grand opening may be an excellent idea now that the fog has lifted. Let me know what you need from us.

Additionally I heard some interesting news that surprised me. I had rather thought you might let me know that there was a lady in your life, but I do hope you shall let us meet her sooner rather than later. She is more than welcome at supper on Sunday night as well, if her parents would allow her.

All my love,
Mother

Mother,
I've talked with Henny, we can certainly be there for dinner on Sunday. We look forward to picking up the samples and starting those out to see how they would do.

I think we can let you see to the details of a grand opening though. Party planning isn't exactly either of our fortes so to speak. It would probably be better if you planned it and just told us where to be and at what time and what to do.

As for a lady in my life, I haven't the foggiest of ideas what you're talking about. I suppose you can explain better when we're there for dinner? Rest assured, however, there will not be an extra place setting needed at the table as there is certainly no lady to be bringing along.
