Yours Truly - Raphael Malfoy - March 1, 2023

1 January, 1893
Yaxley,

You said you would write or visit. I'm left to believe that you've decided to do something stupid without telling me, or that you've forgotten your promise. Either way you've offended me most grievously and I insist you fix this problem at once.

Malfoy,

From what I recall, that was made for the express purpose of in the event that I did "something stupid". I hardly thought that showing up on your doorstep would be something that inspired any emotion except panic.

Please remember I'm a working woman and magical accidents and catastrophes demand no small amount of attention. Which means sometimes I get caught up and forget.

I'm not your puppet, Malfoy. I'm fine, I just got caught up in a work situation again. I've written you back now.
Happy?

Yaxley,

You make it sound as though I've been sitting around waiting for your letter. I'll have you know I only think about you when

Assuming you were appropriately dressed and not covered in blood, I don't think panic is the word I

Yaxley,

What is stupid is your continued employment in your position considering how close to death it's led you to on multiple occasions. If something were to happen to

Yaxley,

I would be happier if you did not presume my intentions. You left rather abruptly the last time we spoke and I had no way to know if you were well. You work for the Ministry: tell me, when did it become a crime to care?

Appeased, but not pleased,

Malfoy,

Oh I do apologize if I read "I insist you fix this problem at once" as being written in a controlling tone.

Clearly it's not a crime to care, seeing as I never stated it was. If I remember correctly - again - it was I who voiced concern for you the last time we were together. I assume since I haven't gotten called to any Malfoy residence that you haven't gotten cursed again?

R. Yaxley,

It's called humor. You ought to give it a try sometime. But I digress.

I am as well. I won't say I haven't been paranoid, particularly while opening Christmas presents, but I don't think it's without good reason. There was one gift that no one in the house could remember purchasing despite being labeled with my name. I would not open it until we discovered it was from my child cousin who had slipped it under the tree during a family party the week before. My mother thought I was being silly, but she didn't push.

I hope your holidays were well. Don't tell me they had you slaving over paperwork on Christmas morning.

Appeased, but not pleased,

Raphael Malfoy

Raphael Malfoy,

You'd be surprised at how different I can be when I'm not being antagonized.

I'm glad you took precaution. I hope the gift was worth the stress.

The holidays were rather lovely, thank you for asking. I didn't work over Christmas, I had that day off to spend with my family. That reminds me, Mama also told me to include leftover sweets to any friends who correspond with me seeing as she grossly overestimated the collective size of our family's appetite.

R. Yaxley,

It's very telling that I can picture your scowl from memory, but I can't remember what your smile looks like. It's tragic, really—you'd think you were suggesting that I spend all of our time together antagonizing you. What ever would lead you to believe that?

My family has leftovers for days as well, but I doubt there's anything you could want or that I could send without my owl consuming before it reached you. He's known for being a gluttonous little pest. If this is your way of asking to send me to a treat, please do so. Few people assume I like sweets, but I promise I do.

Raphael Malfoy,

I'm surprised you didn't owl me when I didn't respond quickly. I'm starting to think you're losing your touch, Malfoy.

As to your question of what would lead me to believe you antagonized me all the time — should I answer categorically or alphabetically?

It seems I forgot to include the sweets, and for that I apologize. See? — that wasn't too bad, apologizing. Perhaps you should try it sometime.

Yaxley,

I promise I do have a life outside our correspondence. As much as I would love to sit around all day and night reading a list of every moment you've felt antagonized, I have a feeling you keep a very detailed list. Have you only been keeping of track of the moments over the last year, or does it go back to school as well?

Thank you for the sweets. And apologizing. I've always been fond of licorice.

Malfoy,

I'm surprised to hear you have a life outside of lavish balls, Malfoy. I'm not surprised to hear you like licorice. It's not my favorite.

R. Yaxley,

I'm not surprised that you have such terrible taste in sweets. Tell me, then, what is your favorite?

Malfoy,

I like Fizzing Whizbees, but they don't get you very far off the ground, I'd rather fly. I suppose I like sugar quills or Drooble's.

Yaxley,

Why does it not surprise me that you enjoy fizzing whizbees? The least sensible of candies, except perhaps bloodpops. I have heard that an overindulgence can cause a build up of air in he head, but at least they are not blood flavored.

I don't think you've ever told me: are you good at flying? Is that a requirement of your position even?

Malfoy,

How is a candy the least sensible? It's candy, it's sugar, it's not supposed to be sensible. Bloodpops are for vampires.

That depends on who you ask. I once raced Dory around the Black Lake and he had to fish me out because I hit a treebranch and fell into the water.

I can hear you laughing.
Yaxley

Yaxley,

You attempt to scold me over my definition of sensible and then tell me you crashed your broomstick and ended up in the Black Lake. I am not laughing. I'm horrified.

Who is Dory, anyways?

Malfoy,

I'm taking it on good faith that you haven't done anything to those fizzing whizbees on account of you know how good I am at hexing people.*

It wasn't my decision to fall into the Black Lake, thank you very much. Dory is a friend from work.
Yaxley
