Where the Crawdad Sings -
Natsuko Foxwood - July 30, 2022
So a movie is coming out, so a chatet on it could be nice - first of the book and then in contrast to the movie.
I guess content warning for anyone reading it - because some of it is a bit ROUGH - so CW sexual assault and child abuse
Putting in broad spoilers because it I'm not sure how to discuss this without spoilers.

MY first thought that the early part of the story was a bit ridiculous- a 6 year old out on her own and self sufficient from that age. I know her dad is sort of there but a 6 year old out on her own strains even the fictional credulity.
The second part of the book was much better than the first IMO, once it got grounded in the meat of the story, I feel like a lot of Kya's ostracising could have been implied, or set out by implication and treatment rather than needing to spend the first part making it so explicit.
I also only just learned that the author is wanted in Zambia, along with her husband for the murder of a poacher captured on film in a 1996 :O
