The Secret Garden

Welcome, you may all call me Hyacinth! Thank you to Lady for this beautiful template that I'm using! I'm rather shy, so I don't chat a whole lot in the chatbox, to be honest, but I don't mind if you choose to send me a PM because you want to talk and get to know me or even just to plot with me. My only request on that front is please do not talk to me if you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs, thank you. I don't mind writing about that sort of thing in a fictional sense, but it makes me really uncomfortable in a real-life situation. I've been in the RPC for a long time, over a decade at this point and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon, though of course as I get older I don't always have the same time to do it as before, though I try to be active. Anyway, please and thank you for reading this and I'll see you around the site!

Plottage Preferences

PLOTS: When writing, I love to create intricate plots with my partner that are long-term in nature and have plenty of substance to carry us through an intriguing story. I adore having pre-established relationships, i.e. I may have an adult character but we plot out how your character and mine were childhood friends. But, I am not opposed to meet-and-greet style plots where we build something completely new and see where it takes us, either, and I even enjoy joining open threads where there are no set directions in mind, so please feel free to talk to me about testing the waters with a thread even if you aren't entirely sure what you want. I don't require us to fully plot out how exactly a thread is going to go, even if it's for a long-term plot, oftentimes I think it's fine to have some mystery, but I do appreciate it when partners communicate with me when they have some ideas or if they are hoping for specific things to be accomplished over the course of the story.

POSTS: Unless it's a letter, diary entry, or it's a character's thoughts, I require all the posts I participate in to be told in the third person point of view. I'm not sure how popular the first and second point of view is these days, anyway, but I just wanted to make it clear just in case. I don't require a specific word count during threads nor expect anyone to match me, but I do have a bad habit of being overly descriptive and therefore my threads tend to be a bit longer than probably necessary. The only thing I expect from you in terms of quality vs quantity is I do expect my partners to give me enough for me to write a decent response back. If you're not feeling a thread anymore, or even just a plot, please just talk to me and let me know so I don't feel like I'm pulling teeth trying to get you to respond. We can always start something new or take a break for a while if you need it. On average, I respond to threads multiple times a week, but sometimes I may need some extra time.

SUBJECTS: For fictional writing, I don't really have any real hard limits, but I still ask that if you want to write something that could be considered dark and/or upsetting for any reason, you just give me a heads up so I know what to expect and I will extend the same courtesy.

Since the tragic death of both her parents in a boating accident, Daphne, along with her little brother, has been in the sole care of their Grandmother, a strict, no-nonsense kind of woman who expects a lot out of both children. For Daphne, The Elder Mrs. Hawthorne desires her to grow up to be the most beautiful debutante in the room and woo the heart of the most promising young man. As she's only ten, right now, however, she's just focusing on making sure Daphne prepares for her first year at Hogwarts and is mastering her etiquette classes. Daphne is a lively little girl who loves to make up stories in her head, sharing them with anyone who will listen, she hopes to make her Grandmother quite proud of her, so she's also extremely proper and polite when she meets those who are older than her and seems to judge other little girls who aren't so neat.

The eldest in a set of twins, Elisabeth Rosier is one of the most stuck up young ladies you might ever have the misfortune of coming across. She knows that all she has to do is scream or bat her eyes and her father will bend to her every whim, buying her the best money can buy and rarely if ever punishes her. The only time he ever put his foot down was when the family moved from Paris, France to the newly refurbished Rosier Manor in the countryside near Yorkshire, England not too long before she started school due to reasons he has yet to explain to anyone but his brother. Her interests include fashion, music, writing in her diary, collecting dolls, and brewing potions - you are most likely to find her sitting in an alcove reading the latest copy of Witch Weekly.

An incredibly gentle and sweet soul, Florian is most well known at school for his panic attacks and bursting into tears when he gets overwhelmed, embarrassed, or otherwise put into extreme emotion. He keeps to himself, mostly, as he doesn't really have any friends, and is always writing in a little journal he possesses in which he writes his feelings, keeps poems he writes, along with sketches and drawings that make him smile. He much prefers the company of animals to people, and was elated when he finally was able to take Care of Magical Creatures. He is excellent at Transfiguration and intends to someday study hard enough to become an animagus so he can become an animal, himself. Right now he's curious because his magical maternal family is curious to meet him but his mother is adamantly against it as she fears how they will treat him.

Once a Quidditch prodigy, signing on to the Appleby Arrows after finishing his OWL exams, Thomas has now taken the position of Referee & Flight Instructor at Hogwarts after a career-ending injury. In his school days, he was known for being loud, not able to sit still, enthusiastic, and always down for an adventure. He did pretty well in school, except for History which he honestly slept through, but he never cared to go into anything that would take book smarts. Quidditch was his whole life! But then when he got injured, due to a horrible accident with a bludger, he fell into a deep depression because he knew he would have to find new employment due to the fact he will never play professionally ever again. Despite the fact he is homosexual, Thomas wishes to find a woman to marry because he dreams of being a father to a little boy and raising him to be a Quidditch player and he knows he can never have that if he doesn't marry.

ISO: current friends, pro quidditch buddies / rivals, he's liberal & fine with any class / blood. he's gay and looking for a male lover, but he also plans to marry so anyone who might be interested in a lavender marriage with their lesbian ladies OR just a regular marriage where he keeps quiet - he wants at least one little boy of his own, but otherwise is fine with not too many kids.

I'm sure once Thomas got into the Quidditch world, he knew of Sloane's family (since he's muggleborn he didn't know of them prior), maybe he knew them personally at some point when he went pro, who knows. But he'd consider it an honor and a privilege to be able to help coach Sloane and her brother at Hogwarts and is happy to make sure the pitch is available for Sloane to practice on her own. He's sure she doesn't need any advice on making the pro league from him since she's got it from her family, but he's happy to offer encouragement anyway Smile

I feel like Thomas and Mason are like... opposites, in a way. Thomas is loud and energetic, and Mason is soft-spoken and reclusive. Being new to working at Hogwarts, I think that Thomas would look to professors like Mason, who've been there for a while, for guidance, especially because Thomas feels like - being only 26, going on 27, he's so young for a staff member and he wonders if students will take him seriously. Thomas may not have a ton in common with him, but he'd still be kind to him around the castle and is happy to help him with anything he needs or hang out.

Hello Hyacinth, welcome to the site. I joined fairly recently (sometime in February if I recall correctly) and always looking for new people to thread with.

At the moment I don't have any Quidditch people or any students at Hogwarts for Thomas to interact with. My youngest character, Edgar Minks is about the same age as Thomas (within a year or two anyway) so they would have spent most of their Hogwarts years together. Edgar Minks was in Slytherin and definitely wouldn't be the sort to tolerate Thomas's loudness. We can certainly plot their past interactions if you like. For current times, I don't know if their paths would cross much, but always possible. Edgar has a more darker alias which he uses to do his more nefarious activities. (owns brothels and illegal gambling dens, that sort of thing.)

At school, I have Terence Higgs , who came on at the beginning of the current school year as the new Art Teacher. He's friendly and patient so I can see him getting along fine with Thomas, even if he's not much of a Quidditch fan. Then again he's more than willing to do a portrait of Thomas (magical or mundane, his choice). There's always a possibly of some kind of romance, Terence isn't 100% straight, though his preference is still women. If the chemistry is right I don't mind exploring that angle. Just simple friendship works too. Either way we can thread them and see how things go. I have a fair bit of free time on my hand so doing a few posts every week isn't any trouble.

Over the summer there's always a chance Thomas could run into my other two characters...but less likely. Feel free to check out my networking thread for more info on my other characters.

I would be happy to do some past threads if you'd like with Edgar and Thomas! Even if it's more antagonistic in nature, it could be fun to explore. But if not, that's fine too - maybe someday we'll have more compatible characters ^^

Thomas and Terence started teaching at Hogwarts at the same time! So that's cool, though given Terence's age in comparison, Thomas might still look to him for guidance the way he does Mason. Either way, being colleagues, Tom intends to be kind and helpful to Terence and I think even if they don't have a ton in common, they could be work friends. I looked at your Networking and I think if Terence hit on Thomas, just to experiment, I think it could be interesting to see, but I don't think Thomas would be the one to make the move due to their age gap (and the fact he doesn't want to get fired if caught).

When it comes to threading with me, even if you can't reply as fast as me, that's fine. Take all the time you need!

Sounds good! She's pretty easygoing, but hangs around the pitch more than anywhere else, so she's around!

She's the ancient studies professor (since 1871) and Ravenclaw's HoH (since 1883), so not only is she Thomas' co-worker now but he also would've probably been vaguely aware of her from his own time as a student in Hogwarts as well. Thea has made it her duty to keep tabs on all new professors to make sure they're adjusting and coping well, so she would've definitely tried to make Thomas feel welcome in the school when he first started.

Omg, somehow I love the idea of Tom knowing her as a professor but also as a colleague, even though he never took her class. It just makes me think of like Snape being a professor or Neville under people they learned from. Thomas would be more than happy that Thea is taking the time to help him get settled as he's definitely looking to other professors for guidance. He's probably like, super respectful in more than the usual way - like he's talking to her still as an authority figure rather than a colleague just out of habit.

I'm good with doing past threads, it'll also establish their current time relationship or at least how they'll react to eachother should their paths cross. Edgar is pretty much a purist when it comes to blood so that alone would put Thomas in his bad books. He'll take any advantage of him he could manage, especially in his NEWT years. We can brainstorm more on this past thread, or if you're more comfortable we can just start a thread and see how it goes. Just let me know if you prefer I start it.

Terence isn't likely to hit on Thomas on his own initiative so romance may not happen between them, at least not in the first year they've worked together. Who knows what the future will hold. We can just focus on them being colleagues and see how that friendship goes. Terence would likely watch some quidditch games during the school year, definitely those of his own House to show his support so certainly could have them sit together during games, unless Thomas is too busy coaching at games.

That's a good idea, establishing a baseline for their relationship - I would love a past thread. I'm fine with just jumping right into it if you'd like, but if you want to plot more, that's okay too. If it's okay, I'd like you to start it? Just since you know why your character and mine would be speaking.

I think just establishing their friendship as colleagues is a good place to start? Maybe in the future, something could happen, maybe not, we'll leave the option open after we see how they get along. Smile

Part of Thomas's job is being the referee so unfortunately, he can't sit with Terence during games, but he's overjoyed that Terence would come to see the games to show his support for his house.

Kenneth Cosgrove was a Slytherin in the year below him. He is charming and kind. He is bisexual but tends to repress that.

George Robins was a Hufflepuff in the year above him and is basically a super shy disney prince.

Quidditch connections
Jack Humphrey-Mavis plays for the Chudley Cannons since 1888 but before that, he was a second string Keeper for the Appleby Arrows from 1886-1888.

Mundungus MacFusty plays for the Hogsmeade Howlers.

Citrine Weasley is a Holyhead Harpy.

Owain Edwards plays for the Kenmere Kestrals.

Tristan Michaud & Esteban Zavala play for Puddlemere United. Esteban was also captain of the British National Team during the most recent Quidditch World Cup. Jack, Munny and Tristan were second stringers on said team as well so he might know of them even if he doesnt actually know them.

I tossed up a thread for Edgar and Thomas... I realized a few things when I was writing up the post, Edgar was a year behind Thomas due to being born in October (and thus too young to start in September ) and it looks like Thomas didn't return after completing his OWL years. In the end, not a real problem, just limited which years we can have them interact.

That said, I dated the post as being in the first half of Thomas's 5th year, if that works for you.

Hi, Kit!

Tommy here is a bit like an overexcited golden retriever - he's loud, friendly, and wants so desperately to be everyone's friend, or at the very least liked by them. It doesn't matter what year his former classmates were in - above or below him - if they wanted to hang out with him, he would be more than welcoming. That being said if you want to do past threads or have an established friendship / possible flirtation between Cleon, Kenneth, or George - I'm totally open to that! Or jump into something in the present after a chance meeting, who knows. Though I see that Kenneth is a soft purist, and while I don't know entirely what that means, if it causes him to dislike Thomas, that's fine too and we can always establish more of an enemy thing or rivalry - that's also cool too. Okay, so, the one of course that sticks out to me is Jack because both of them were Keepers for the Appleby Arrows - Jack was second string when Thomas was on the first string, so perhaps in the past he may have been super welcoming to him and encouraging. Though, he would have been quite sad to see him leave the team in '88, even though he was proud he made first string (and didn't replace him as first string Keeper on the Arrows). So a thought regarding the Quidditch people, depending on how well he knew them, maybe Thomas writes them as part of him grieving the loss of his own career - seeing how they're doing on their teams and such (especially Jack for reasons that I just mentioned above).

Once again, I'm 100% open to exploring flirtations, friendships, rivalries, etc. with any of them!

Omg, so James totally will remind Thomas of him at his age! Both of them are fast talkers and always energetic and getting hurt due to sports and such. Though, of course, Thomas grew out of some of it and he'd definitely be the teacher to be like, listen, knock it off. He'd offer advice and he'd be supportive of him playing and try and help him improve, but he's also like knock it off before I make you run so many laps you wish your legs could be detached.

I'm always down for Quidditch acquaintances! It makes me wonder if they would still keep in contact with Thomas after his accident since he feels like that part of his life completely died that day. He might try writing them letters and check up on them, see how it's going if anything interesting is happening that season, especially Augusta because she would have been playing at the same time he was and so they'd know each other as opponents. Though I see that Theodore and Thomas would have played against each other for one year (the '80-'81 school year) so there's that.

Totally if Rosamund wants to treat Tommy Boy's injury I'm down - I imagine he was out in a coma for a good month or two and had to deal with a lot of bone healing and even now he deals with constant aches and pains, especially if he overdoes it with his muscles while training with the house teams. I think Thomas downplays his injuries a lot because he's super bitter and heartbroken about it killing his Quidditch career and this might cause him to be especially ornery with the healers who treated him.

Listen - if Jemima is looking and doesn't mind the fact that Thomas technically will never love her in the way she wants, I'm trying to get Thomas at least courting by the end of the summer. He's not interested in women, but he's interested in being a father so he's willing to deal with it and he's hoping to at least be best friends with whomever he marries. I think he'd find her personality sweet; being bubbly and optimistic - and when she's being insecure about herself and he's like a ray of sunshine like you're amazing!! Though he's Muggleborn and I can just see her parents grilling him on everything about his parents and what they do as Arthur Weasley did to Hermione and Harry.

Tommy here is a bit like an overexcited golden retriever - he's loud, friendly, and wants so desperately to be everyone's friend, or at the very least liked by them. It doesn't matter what year his former classmates were in - above or below him - if they wanted to hang out with him, he would be more than welcoming. That being said if you want to do past threads or have an established friendship / possible flirtation between Cleon, Kenneth, or George - I'm totally open to that! Or jump into something in the present after a chance meeting, who knows. Though I see that Kenneth is a soft purist, and while I don't know entirely what that means, if it causes him to dislike Thomas, that's fine too and we can always establish more of an enemy thing or rivalry - that's also cool too. Kenneth being a soft purist basically means he is fine with muggleborns and muggles existing - just don't try marrying into my family. He also isn't obvious and blatant about those views though so there'd be no reason for Thomas to be aware of his views.
