    Marianne Milene Hatchitt

“Love is the light scaring darkness away.”

    - ※ -

    Early Life

AUTUMN OF 1865 | After a string of miscarriages and a stillbirth, Muggle couple Mr. and Mrs. Erasmus Burdon are finally blessed with a healthy and robust child, a daughter they had named Marianne Milene, for both of her grandmothers.

WINTER OF 1865 | Having always been of fragile health -- especially so after the birth of her daughter -- Mary's mother comes down with a severe case of pneumonia in the middle of November. And despite everyone's efforts to revive her back to health, Mrs. Rosemary Burdon passed away a few days before Christmas that year, leaving her husband a widower and her only living child motherless.

WINTER OF 1866 | Distraught by the passing of his wife, Erasmus feels unequal to the task of being a father to his child -- and most likely resented her for making his wife so weak and susceptible to illness after birth -- and had thus placed Mary into the care of her grandparents in the New Year.

YEAR OF 1869 | Mary was four when she first started displaying signs of magic. Little incidences -- such as a candle whose wick refused to die when Mary was afraid of the dark or when Grandmother Burdon's garden bloomed much earlier than anyone had expected (though they had assumed that that had been sheer luck on their parts) -- that sometimes made her grandparents confused and often clueness, but never made them suspect that it had anything to do with their only granddaughter.

YEAR OF 1870 | Mary was five when her Grandmother Burdon had deemed her old enough to receive an education, and Mary was soon enrolled in a schoolhouse in the village that she shared with several other children -- including her male cousins. While she had always been fond of stories and be read to, it's around this time that Mary began to read herself, and proved herself a quick learner where reading, writing, and English was concerned.

YEAR OF 1873 | Mary was eight when her father gets into a carriage accident, and dies as a result. Although she had never been close to the man, she had felt saddened by his death and had mourned him as was appropriate. As stated in his will, her grandparents were given full custody of Mary until she came of age.

YEAR OF 1877 | Mary and her grandparents were given the shock of their lives when it was revealed that, not only she was a witch, but that she was eligible to attend a magical boarding school, as well. Although a bit wary of it, at first -- as the very idea of magic existing was somewhat of a fantastical notion -- it was Mary's desire to pursue a Hogwarts education that made her grandparents consent to the scheme. Though they never did quite warm up to the idea that their granddaugther was a witch.

    Hogwarts Years

1877 - 1878; FIRST YEAR | Excited by the prospect of learning an entirely new culture as well as the thought of learning magic, Mary had soaked up everything she could about the Wizarding World during her first year, proving herself rather well-suited in Ravenclaw. Magical Theory and History of Magic were the subjects that she excelled in that year, though Potions, Herbology, and Charms were not far behind. She also begins a friendship with two other girls in her year -- Elsie Beauregard in Gryffindor and Temerita Reid in Hufflepuff.

1878 - 1879; SECOND YEAR | At the behest of one of her classmates (and her grandparents, who thought that their granddaughter should participate more instead of burying herself in her studies), Mary joined the Garden and Potions clubs.

1879 - 1880; THIRD YEAR | Mary picked up Earth Magic and Ancient Studies as her OWL electives. She enjoyed them both equally.

1880 - 1881; FOURTH YEAR | At fifteen, Mary begins her monthly courses. Having been frightened at first -- because there was just so much blood, and it wouldn't stop -- she had been assured by the Hogwarts Nurse this was completely normal.

1881 - 1882; FIFTH YEAR | Although slightly disappointed that she hadn't been made Prefect, Mary becomes rather glad of it as her professors pile on the workload in preparation for OWLs. This is also the year that she contemplates becoming a Healer.

She manages to pass her exams with five Os and three Es.

1882 - 1883; SIXTH YEAR | Mary becomes acquainted with Mr. Jesse Hatchitt, a Quidditch-playing Ravenclaw in the year above her. They begin spending time together, and by the end of the year, are taken with one another.

Mary also decides that Healing was most definitely what she wanted to pursue after Hogwarts, and thus had picked Ancient Studies, Charms, DADA, Earth Magic, Herbology, Potions, and Transfiguration as her NEWT courses. She also decided to work an intership at Hogsmeade Hospital over the 1883 summer.

1883 - 1884; SEVENTH YEAR | Now into her seventh and final year, Mary focused heavily upon her NEWT studies, wanting to do well enough to receive admittance as a Healer upon leaving Hogwarts. Though the year also sees excitement, as well, when on her birthday, Jesse practically proposed marriage to her, and she had accepted.

    After Hogwarts

SUMMER OF 1884 | Soon after graduation and making her debut into society, Mary applies for a six-month internship at Hogsmeade Hospital in July, which she was easily granted. Though the summer wasn't without its challenges, and the Laughing Plague of 1884 ensured that the hospital was appropriately swamped throughout it all, and Mary had helped as much as she could. Even risking both her safety and reputation to wander into the Slums -- chaperoned, of course -- to provide what little medical assistance that was available to her.

SPRING OF 1885 | Mary is promoted to a full-fledged Potion & Plant Poisoning Healer at the hospital. She was very excited by this development.

AUTUMN OF 1885 | After a Quidditch injury had left him very shaken, Jesse once again proposes marriage to her -- this time, in a more appropriate fashion -- and they elope in October with Miss Beauregard as witness. They then moved into a comfortable two-bedroom apartment in South Bartonburg.

    Present Day

Although her demanding schedule often leaves her with far less time to spend with her husband than she'd like, Mary continues working at the Hospital and balancing her marriage on top of it. She sometimes feels guilty for not being a proper wife to Jesse, but would not give her work up for anything, unless he asked her to.
